Strange and spooky pets

With Halloween looming, my thoughts at The Animal Training Academy have turned to creepy crawlies and unusual beasts. As with any creature, they come with specific housing and care requirements to consider that won’t leave you spooked.
Frogs and Toads
Like with any pets, amphibians need a lot of care and specialised housing. Depending on the species and where they originate, they will vary in their requirements.

Some frogs live high up in trees, some live in water and some can’t actually swim; a good pet shop owner will help you out finding the balance between your favourite species and what’s best for you both.
Lizards and Snakes The trick with reptiles is to make sure their new home is set up correctly from the start by getting the right tank, lighting and food suitable for their habitat. Lizards and snakes are more prone to diseases and health problems if their diet and house isn’t suitable.
Snakes will require frozen live food so perhaps not the best
pet for those a little squeamish. Lizards need bugs in their diet, so think about where you’re going to keep their food.
Spiders You might notice more house spiders around at this time of year but our arachnid friends can also make great, low maintenance pets. However, some tarantulas are venomous and so can’t be handled. If you are allergic to bee or wasp stings then it isn’t advised to have a spider as a pet.
When looking for an unusual pet, always do your research and most certainly ask a reliable pet shop owner or breeder for help with setting up vivariums.
