Phil Cotton has been appointed as chair of Southampton Solent University’s Board of Governors. From August 1 2017, Cotton will take over from Jonathan Cheshire who is retiring after 10 years. Cheshire joined the board of governors at Solent in August 2007 and has held the position of chair since August 2013. Cotton has been on the board of governors as an independent governor since November 2015, he has also been chair of the audit committee for the past year.

Mike Sellers, port director of Portsmouth International Port, is the new chair of the chamber’s Portsmouth and district area committee. Sellers became port director in January 2017 having worked for Associated British Ports for more than 14 years. Born into a family of dock workers in Hull, he previously held senior roles at ports in East Anglia and Humberside.

Bamford is a highly-experienced senior manager, with over 20 years’ international board level experience in a wide variety of industries.

After graduating with a degree in law from Queen Mary, University of London in 2006 and completing her LPC course at BPP Law School in 2008 with distinction, Phillips spent four years in the specialist fraud insolvency division of Grant Thornton UK LLP in London, where she dealt with both corporate and personal insolvency matters involving misconduct and the misappropriation of creditors’ funds, and obtained the Certificate of Proficiency in Insolvency.
