Thames Valley law firm Gardner Leader has made a key new appointment to its family team with Suzy Hamshaw joining as senior associate. Prior to joining Gardner Leader, Hamshaw spent 17 years at local law firm Charles Lucas and Marshall, most recently as senior associate. She has practised family law for 20 years and has wide ranging experience in all aspects of family law and is also a collaborative lawyer and a member of Resolution, an organisation committed to the constructive resolution of family disputes.


CH&Co Group’s commercial division has strengthened its commitment to providing the best innovative food and service to its clients through key operational and culinary appointments and promotions. Sean Ritson has joined the team as operational director – commercial. In this pivotal role, Ritson is responsible for generating organic growth with the existing customer base, retaining all current contracts and driving future growth opportunities. He brings to the team 15 years’ experience in the competitive field of commercial retail businesses, having previously worked for some of Compass’ largest commercial B&I contracts and most recently as business director for bartlett mitchell, responsible for the Central London Business and Inn or Out Events. Meanwhile, the commercial culinary team has also been strengthened with promotions that recognise the achievements of chefs from within the Group. The talented, Craft Guild of Chefs award-winning, Karen Poynter, has been promoted to executive chef – commercial. Owen Hurley has also been promoted to day visitor catering development chef and Luke Smith is now executive support chef for Ampersand.


Bucks New University’s mission is ‘more relevant than ever’ according to Professor Nick Braisby who has been appointed as deputy vice-chancellor. Professor Braisby is leaving the University of West London as pro vice- chancellor – a position he has held since 2013 – to join Bucks in the autumn term. He said: “I am delighted to be joining Bucks New University as deputy vice-chancellor and especially so soon after the University has celebrated its 125th anniversary.


Pitmans Law has announced the appointment of two new partners. Donna Goldsworthy joins as a commercial litigation partner in London and Paul Brame joins as a commercial property partner in Reading. Goldsworthy’s background is in business advisory and risk assessment. She was formerly at Irwin Mitchell and gained her international experience at Cozen O’Connor and Paul Hastings. Brame joins from Blake Morgan where he advised on commercial property matters, particularly in the areas of corporate occupier work and secured lending.


The Reading office of Gateley plc has appointed solicitor Eleanor Wood to its family team. Wood, who is a member of Resolution; an organisation that promotes a constructive and non-confrontational approach to family law matters, joins from Hallett & Co Solicitors in Kent where she completed her training contract.

Leading regional law firm Boyes Turner has further strengthened its development and house building team with the addition of solicitor Sara McKay. McKay joins Boyes Turner from the Manchester office of national firm Trowers & Hamlins, where she worked in its development team. Her experience includes working on large-scale land acquisitions and acting for social housing providers on development issues. McKay will work with partners William Nassau-Lake, Mark Appleton and Derek Ching, and the existing team on a range of residential and commercial development projects.


ArchOver, the peer-to-peer business lending platform, has appointed Nick Jones as regional director. He will be responsible for growing the business’s network of borrowers across the Thames Valley and Chiltern areas as part of ArchOver’s aim to lend more than £60 million by the end of the year. Jones will proactively identify businesses that have been trading for more than three years, have a turnover of more than £3 million and are looking for credit to continue growing. He joins an expanding team of regional representatives, with ArchOver now sourcing funding for businesses across London, the South East, the Midlands, the North and the Home Counties.
