column News from the list
TJ, at number 140 on the Solent 250 list, has recently announced the appointment of Barry Curtis as head of finance. Its TJ Waste division has also been awarded a three-year £1.5 million contract in a competitive tendering process by VIVID, recently formed from the merger of housing associations First Wessex and Sentinel. VIVID has 30,000 homes under management and one of its key objectives is to have 90% or more of its waste recycled – hence TJ’s contract.
Ceuta Group, which is at number 72 on our list, has announced the acquisition of Creative Leap, a London-based brand and communications agency. Bournemouth-based Ceuta is a global consumer brand services organisation working with some of the key businesses in the health and personal care and food and drinks industries. It is growing fast – having acquired Orchid Field Marketing, Bridgethorne and 1HQ recently.
The UK’s largest independent telecoms provider, Onecom, at number 65 in our list, has recently entered the Northern Ireland market. Headquartered in Fareham, Onecom has opened a new regional office in Belfast, saying it can bring “real, tangible value and genuine
innovation to businesses in Northern Ireland”. It has invested £5m in the Belfast operation and expects to employ 30 people there.
Ocean Automotive, operating in Dorset and Somerset, and specialising in Audi and Volvo, relocated to its plush £14.5m Poole Audi showroom last summer, creating 20 new jobs in the process, and it looks like the move has paid off – with group sales up from £109m to £131m in 2016, ensuring it will jump up the list from its current position at 34.
Lush Cosmetics, at number five, is close to hitting £400m turnover in the past financial year. It is headquartered in Poole although founder and CEO Mark Constantine was quoted a year ago saying that, because of Brexit, he was moving some production to Germany.
Another household name, Fat Face, has moved into a 80,000 sq ft facility at Dunsbury Park, with the option of another 40,000 sq ft later. The company, where sales have grown to £220m, has opened new stores in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, as well as closer to home, at Paddington and Woolacombe.
