LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR BY LAURA SHELTON, CMP
The Conference May Be Over, But Education Never Stops
I
t was amazing to see and interact with so many DATIA members this spring at the DATIA Annual Conference and Exposition. Not only was participation great, but more importantly, those in atendance were fully engaged in learning and in making
and solidifying connections. Providing education and networking opportunities are the foundation of DATIA and its mission so it was rewarding to see so many members taking advantage of the experience. Te DATIA Conference Recap article later in this issue of DATIA focus provides
highlights of the conference so I won’t take up space here on that other than to say…if you weren’t there you missed a great conference and we hope to see you May 22–24, 2018 for the 2018 Annual Conference and Exposition in New Orleans, LA! In keeping with DATIA’s foundation of providing education, this issue of DATIA focus
DATIA WOULD LIKE TO RECOGNIZE AND THANK ITS
STRATEGIC

• EASLER EDUCATION INC. • INTOXIMETERS • LIFELOC
TECHNOLOGIES, INC. • RANDOX TOXICOLOGY

continues that goal with many varying topics of interest to those within the industry. Specifically, DATIA management noticed a higher than normal influx of calls concerning alcohol testing and the ADA so an article on that topic is included, as well as comprehensive information on the new HHS Mandatory Guidelines for Federal Workplace Drug Testing that take effect on October 1st of this year. Other timely topics include articles on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administrations clearinghouse for driver drug and alcohol testing information and the current state of impaired driving involving marijuana. Rounding out this issue are articles providing in-depth information on best practices and new ideas that you can implement immediately to benefit you, your company and its employees, and your clients. As an association management professional that regularly participates in continuing
education and reads multiple industry publications monthly to stay up to date on current trends as well as to maintain my certification requirements, I understand the importance of belonging to an association (or associations in my case) that listens to my needs and provides me with the education on topics important to me. We understand that each DATIA member has varying needs and interests and try to provide something for everyone, while maintaining DATIA’s mission and foundation. Should you have suggestions or ideas on topics for future DATIA focus articles, training courses, or other educational offerings, I’d love to hear from you. With that, please enjoy the summer issue of DATIA focus! ❚
Best,
Laura Shelton, CMP DATIA Executive Director
