GETTING TO KNOW BY TAMIKA CARTER, DATIA
Getting to Know: Shawn O’Neil, FirstSource Solutions
As a member of the Board, I plan on being instrumental in the implementation of an outreach program to encourage employers to utilize the educational programs available through DATIA. Rather than be a conduit of the information DATIA provides, I would like to help draw employers to DATIA so they have direct access to the information.
Why were you interested in serving on the Board? DATIA is such a valuable resource to the drug
and alcohol testing industry. Trough its education programs and networking opportunities, I have grown significantly in my career. I consider myself an innovator and I would love to be part of an organization that is leading the future of the industry.
Tell us about your company and your current role. Tell us about your role with DATIA as well. I serve as the Executive Vice President of Client Services and Account Management at FirstSource Solutions. FirstSource Solutions is a privately held Tird Party Administrator (TPA) that has been in operation for over 27 years. I am responsible for leading the team that delivers service to our clients, and to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations. Our goal at FirstSource Solutions is to support employers in the management of their Workplace Drug & Alcohol Testing programs and to assist those who are recovering from substance use through our Recovery Management Services. Our clients include employers with only one employee to Fortune 100 clients, as well as state and local government programs nationwide. FirstSource Solutions has programs that support all modes of transit and ensures compliance with all DOT regulations. My role with DATIA started in 2015 when I attended my first DATIA Annual
38 datia focus
Conference. I attended multiple training sessions and was eager to soak up all the information that was available. I have attended every national conference since, taken as many courses in person and online as I could, and last year joined the Education Committee. In 2017, I was elected to the Board of Directors, which I am excited to be joining and expanding my relationship with DATIA.
What have been some of your major accomplishments? I joined FirstSource Solutions five years ago, as one of the founders of the Occupational Health Department. I am very proud to have been a part of the significant growth we have experienced in that business sector, and the company overall. I have grown from my role as Director of Occupational Health to my current position as a member of the Executive Team, responsible for the implementation and administration of all operating strategies affecting client satisfaction and regulatory compliance. In addition, I have successfully completed the courses to become a Certified MRO Assistant (CMROA), Certified DER (C-DER), and Certified Collector (CPC). While doing all this, I atended school full-time and earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Management.
What do you hope to accomplish during your time on the Board? My passion lies in education. As a member of the Board, I plan on being instrumental in the implementation of an outreach program to encourage employers to utilize the educational programs available through DATIA. Rather
