s there really such a thing as a workday without stress? I don’t think so. However, your day can go smoothly even if you just received


certified mail from the Office of Aerospace Medicine Drug Abatement Division for an inspection. Yes, I know that your heart just skipped a beat; or sudden panic may have coursed through your body. But remember—depending on how well you keep your records and prepare for your auditors, you can have a good audit. Rather than viewing an audit as a


threat, I tend to think of it as a learning experience—a time to ask questions and show the auditors how well you manage your program. However, if you don’t keep accurate, organized files on your safety-sensitive employees, things might not go smoothly. A good practice is to create a file or book


for every safety-sensitive employee you hire or transfer into a safety-sensitive role. Since I manage multiple sites across the US, I color- code my files. Label them with employee name, badge number, site, year, date of drug screen, and report-out date on the tab.
