Founded by Laney Rosenzweig, MS, LMFT in 2007, T

he Speaker Sisterhood, a network of public speaking clubs for women, is launching a new club and holding a free open house

on Tuesday, September 12th, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Port- land Public Library. The goal of the club is to provide a community to woman who want to increase confi dence, boost public speaking skills, have fun, and maybe even change the world.

The open house will offer an overview of what club meetings

entail, how to join, and what members can expect to gain. Open house attendees can also volunteer to give a two-minute speech to practice public speaking and get a glimpse of the powerful experi- ence each meeting offers.

“Each Speaker Sisterhood club isn’t just a place to practice speaking in front of a group, it’s a tribe of like-minded women who are supporting and empowering each other to follow their dreams by building confi dence in their voice” says Angela Lussier, CEO of the Speaker Sisterhood, a Holyoke, Massachusetts-based company.

Each club experience offers a 10-month curriculum that features the foundations of public speaking, like storytelling, persuasion, humor, body language, and more. The Speaker Sister- hood is built on Lussier’s signature speech craft method, the STAGE System™. The STAGE System teaches members how to focus on the fi ve main components of making the speech their own: style, truth, art, group, and energy. These fi ve elements are built into every meeting to insure all members are cultivating a speaking style that is true to them.

“I’m very excited to lead this club. As soon as I heard about the Speaker Sisterhood, I knew it was something with which I wanted to be involved. Having the chance to bring women together to share ideas, stories, and views is exactly what the world needs right now,” says Portland club leader, Christina Stathopoulos, Head Coach of Hear Her Roar, a private coaching practice based in Portland.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is an eye movement therapy that aims to replicate the movements found during the Rapid Eye Movement (REM) stage of sleep. This stage of sleep is known to aid the body and/or mind in things such as problem solving ability, healing of pain, and calming responses. The eye movements have the effect of both reducing anxiety and facilitating new connections in the processing of information and it is thought that they increase connections between the left and right sides of the brain.

ART is focused and directive, allowing the therapist to use

the eye movements in a very specifi c way to aid in the resolution of many issues, including: anxiety, depression, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, phobias, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and grief/loss. ART has also been used for treatment of addictions and pain management. ART has been used for treatment of children, adolescents, and adults.

During this presentation, we will cover the history of

ART, current research, the basic protocol of ART, our anecdotal experiences utilizing ART, and will provide a brief demonstration of the process.

Shellie Cook and Jill Willer have been practicing psychotherapy for a combined 24 years. They were trained in ART together through the Rosenzweig Center for Rapid Recovery in April of 2013 and regularly practice ART in their outpatient practice, Cornerstone Counseling.
