s you probably noticed on the cover, we have a new name! Essential Living Maine is now offi cially ELM Maine. Don’t worry – we’re still providing the same fantastic content – cutting-edge, timely information on natural health, wellness, green living, nutrition, fi tness, spirituality and organic products all local to Maine. So, why change the name?

A Maine Many of you know that ELM Maine is a sister publication to

Natural Nutmeg based in Connecticut. Ten years ago, I started Natural Nutmeg to educate health and environmentally conscious readers who desired a holistic, natural lifestyle and it quickly became a platform to connect them with local healthcare practitioners and ho- listic business owners. Over the years, many people from other states told me how much they loved the magazine and hoped I would offer one in their local area. With all of the great feedback, I was encouraged to see if the concept would work in another location and I launched ELM Maine in 2014.

Because of the success I’ve had with both publications, I am excited to announce that I will be offering a licensing opportunity to expand the concept nationally! I decided to trademark and change the name to refl ect both an acronym – ELM (Essential Living Magazine) – and a symbol for the magazine of an Elm tree. To me, the Elm tree signifi es inner strength and intuition, with its body rooted in the earth while its crown dances in the sky. In Greek mythology, the infant goddess Artemis (also known as Diana) practiced her newly acquired silver bow and arrows by shooting fi rst at an Elm. In natural medi- cine, Elm is one of the 38 substances that are used to prepare Bach fl ower remedies. Sym- bolic to Connecticut, almost every town has an Elm tree. The largest Elm in the country (over 100 feet high) was right in Wethersfi eld and New Haven is named the Elm City.

I hope you enjoy the new name and stay tuned for more information on the expan- sion and licensing opportunity. If you happen to live in another state, please contact me about how you can bring this magazine to your local area!

In Health and Happiness,

have been told by psychics for years that I have a very strong intu- ition, but tend to doubt it and let my mind make decisions for me. We all have gut instincts, but most ignore them or don’t even notice them to begin with. My intuition kicks in all the time and it can be as simple as when I’m playing a game of cards and have a feeling I should draw from the deck instead of taking from the discard pile and discover the card from the deck was exactly what I needed to play my hand. I had one psychic describe intuition to me as the “Marden’s effect”. It’s

I

when you’ve had a desire to purchase something and haven’t been able to fi nd what you were looking for and you suddenly have an urge to go to Marden’s. Marden’s is a store in Maine with multiple locations. They purchase overstock and items from stores that have gone out of business or have had some sort of damage. The end result is they have a constant turn over in merchandise and you never know what you’ll fi nd. Well, when you suddenly have an urge to go to Marden’s, if you aren’t a regular shopper there, more than likely that is your intuition guiding you to the item you have been looking for. Again, this happens to me all the time. Now, if you’re someone who feels you don’t have a strong intuition and you wonder why it happens to other people and not you, then I will tell you that you can develop your intuition. I am currently reading a book called, “Intuition-Unlock the Power” by Dr. Cate Howell. It is a very easy to read book that gives you a system to follow to increase your intuitive abilities. How did I fi nd this book? By following my intuition to a yard sale after taking my mother out to dinner in Brunswick! I am always amazed when things “just happen” for me and feel blessed that everything turns out exactly how it is supposed to and I know a big part of that is from following my intuition. So today, I encourage you to start paying attention to your gut instincts and take steps towards developing your intuition so you can start being amazed at what “just happens” for you too!
