NEWS WARM WELCOME FOR CPO’S

‘VISION’ FOR PHARMACY Community Pharmacy Scotland (CPS) has welcomed the Chief Pharmaceutical Offi cer’s vision for the pharmacy profession in Scotland as laid out in her strategy document’Achieving Excellence in Pharmaceutical Care’, which was recently launched.

‘Services provided in Scotland’s 1256 pharmacies are essential to promoting and maintaining the health and wellbeing of the communities they serve,’ CPS said in a statement, adding that it was ‘reassuring to see this refl ected in community pharmacy’s place front- and-centre of this new strategy.’

‘The commitment to support our members in maximising their clinical capacity will be key to delivering even further on national health and wellbeing priorities,’ the statement continued. ‘It is only through national strategies and actions that barriers to unlocking the full potential of the Scottish community pharmacy

contract can be overcome to meet and exceed the shared ambitions of our members, the Scottish Government and the NHS.

‘Community Pharmacy Scotland looks forward to working in partnership with the Chief Pharmaceutical Offi cer and her team to enact the changes necessary to facilitate our network’s contribution to this vision.’

CPS Chairman, Martin Green, was particularly effusive in his welcome for the CPO’s strategy document.

‘Community Pharmacy Scotland welcomes the release of ‘Achieving Excellence in Pharmaceutical Care’, he said, ‘and is delighted to see that our core clinical services and skills will be developed and promoted over the next fi ve years. I look forward to working with Rose Marie and her team to make these developments a reality to ultimately improve the health and wellbeing of the Scottish people.’

PHARMACY SALES HIGHLIGHT

BUOYANT MARKET Pharmacy sales in Scotland have proven to be a buoyant market with the recent sale of two community pharmacies by specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co.

The company was responsible for the sale of two pharmacies, which both sold after relatively short periods of time.

Aberfoyle Pharmacy in Stirlingshire, which was sold off an asking price of £325,000, attracted signifi cant interest very early on and was placed under offer after only four days on the market. It was sold to a fi rst-time buyer.

Cilll Chuimein Pharmacy in Fort Augustus was marketed for a period of only seven weeks and four offers were received from a mix of buyers including a large group operator. The pharmacy is situated within a local fuel station and convenience store and is run under management.

‘The sales show there continues to be a strong demand for all types of pharmacies across the whole of Scotland,’ said Karl Clezy, Director at Christie & Co team, ‘The lack of pharmacies on the market is resulting in prices increasing year on year, making it an ideal time for those who are considering a sale to get in touch with our experienced team.’
