their demand and use of digital technology in terms of e-learning resources, attending live webinars and watching webcasts in their own time. NES are adapting to this in terms of how and what we offer but there is still a demand for face-to-face training events and some paper based resources.
Among the recent NES Pharmacy CPD initiatives based on developments within the profession in Scotland are:
EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT OF OVER-THE-COUNTER (OTC) CONSULTATIONS
NES Pharmacy recently launched two new resources in response to the Which? report findings which were published in 2013. The Effective Management of Over- the-Counter (OTC) Consultations distance learning pack and POM to P guidance cards were sent to every community pharmacy in Scotland. The resources are aimed at medicines counter assistants but can be utilised by all members of the community pharmacy team. A webinar and face- to-face local events for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and support staff were also delivered as part of the spring 2017 NES Pharmacy
Annual Programme. Further training is planned for spring 2018 to support this initiative.
SMOKING
A recent educational resource developed by NES Pharmacy has been the new Varenicline e-learning module to support the implementation of the national PGD template for Varenicline. This resource aims to update pharmacists on the evidence for use of Varenicline, including new evidence relating to the safety profile and quit rate relative to other smoking cessation products.
