RPS CONFIRMS THIRD TERM FOR DR JOHN MCANAW

Eighteen months of study by 23 pharmacists have been recognised by Scotland’s Chief Pharmaceutical Offi cer, Rose Marie Parr, at a graduation event in Edinburgh.
Professor Parr said she was really excited by the potential of the men and women from across Scotland who completed the Pharmacy Management Clinical Leadership in Pharmacy programme, which involved the participants in a structured framework of twelve days of classroom work, including two two-day residential courses, and the delivery of a mentored workplace- based healthcare improvement project.
The programme was devised by Pharmacy Management whose

Day two consists of a combination of plenary and workshop sessions and is targeted at applying best practice and taking the lead in service development to enhance patient care.
The offi cial Twitter hashtag of the seminar is #RPSScot17.
Chief Executive, John Stanley, says its success lies in bringing together clinicians working in community, primary and secondary care roles.
‘By working alongside colleagues from across Scotland,’ he said, ‘the Clinical Leadership in Pharmacy programme encouraged the pharmacists involved to learn from their peers through sharing experiences, challenging each other and developing productive, professional networks.
‘We have all been struck by the passion that has been shown throughout by this fi rst cohort of future clinical leaders in pharmacy in Scotland. We look forward to running similar programmes again in coming years.’
‘I am delighted and humbled to have received the support from my colleagues for a third term as Chair of the Scottish Pharmacy Board,’ Dr McAnaw said. ‘It has been a privilege serving over the past two years, but I am clear that I want our professional body to achieve more for its members and the wider profession. I will continue to strengthen the Scottish identity within RPS in a way that is clearly visible to Scottish members, and clearly demonstrates what is being delivered for Scotland’s pharmacists.
‘We are facing some signifi cant pieces of work both in Scotland and across Great Britain and I will continue to ensure that the Board considers the implications of Board decisions on England and Wales (and vice versa), and that GB-

wide policy and advice refl ects the Scottish perspective. Where there is imbalance, I will challenge it and champion a joined-up approach.’
The Scottish Pharmacy Board also elected new Board Member Jonathan Burton to serve as Vice- Chair and David Thomson to continue to serve as the Scottish Pharmacy Board’s Assembly representative alongside John McAnaw.

HPV MSM PROGRAMME GETS UNDERWAY IN SCOTLAND
An HPV (human papillomavirus) vaccination programme for men who have sex with men (MSM) has begun in Scotland. The vaccine will be offered to MSM up to and including the age of 45 attending sexual health or HIV clinics. MSM prisoners aged up to and including 45 years of age will also be eligible to receive the vaccine through prison health services.
Introducing such a programme follows a recommendation by the UK’s independent, expert panel on vaccination matters, the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI).
HPV is the name for a group of viruses, which can lead to genital warts and some forms of cancer. Vaccination helps to provide the best protection against high risk HPV types which can cause cancer.
‘I am delighted to announce the
introduction of a HPV vaccination programme for MSM in Scotland,’ said Public Health Minister, Aileen Campbell. ‘Its introduction is based on the advice of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation. The JCVI recognises that MSM are a group at high risk of HPV infection and associated disease who receive little indirect health benefi t from the existing, highly successful, HPV vaccination programme for girls. Introducing a HPV vaccination programme for MSM will help to provide protection against HPV infection which can cause genital warts and HPV related cancers.’
