Health Check, revisions to the advice on what is to be recorded on PCR with updated screenshots, and revision to the Patient Registration Form to reflect that dietitians may refer patients to the GFFS. The new support pack can be accessed from the new NES Digital platform from Turas Learn.

PHARMACY QUALITY ROADSHOWS

PHARMACY FIRST

In collaboration with Robert Gordon University, NES Pharmacy are in the process of developing on-line training resources to support the National roll out of Pharmacy First. Pharmacy First is a new Community Pharmacy Service which aims to build capacity in Primary Care by extending the scope of community pharmacists in the management of common clinical conditions. The service seeks to counter the challenges of access to GP services and relieve pressure on Out of Hours services by allowing community pharmacists to provide free access to treatment for uncomplicated urinary tract infections and impetigo. Patients can present at their local community pharmacy without an appointment and, following a consultation with the pharmacist, will receive advice,

treatment or referral to another appropriate healthcare professional.

The NES e-learning module entitled Pharmacy First will include information on urinary tract infections, skin conditions (including impetigo), antimicrobial resistance, information gathering, and referral (using an SBAR tool).

GLUTEN-FREE FOOD SERVICE (GFFS) SUPPORT PACK

The Gluten-Free Food Service Support Pack has recently been revised to reflect the fact that the GFFS trial period has ended and the service is continuing in all community pharmacies. Key changes in the new electronic version include updated clinical guidance on Coeliac Disease, additional information on the Pharmacy Annual Coeliac Disease

NES is part of a collaborative that has developed and run a series of Pharmacy Quality Roadshows in late 2016 and early 2017. Pharmacy Quality Roadshow leads were identified in each NHS Board area and were responsible for raising awareness, coordinating and delivering local training. NES and RPS hosted a series of events across Scotland.

The content focused on the error reporting/decriminalisation agenda, the application of learning from the Scottish Patient Safety Programme, the Scottish Government’s quality agenda and the RPS Quality, Safety, Professionalism and ‘just culture ambition’. Evaluation of the events has been very positive and has identified topics for follow-up sessions.

There is also a demand for pharmacists to attend multi-professional training. NES supports this in a variety of ways - live events in the evenings and at weekends (mainly with GPs), live webinars where the professionals can interact together to ask questions and discuss and also at the increasingly popular Practice Based Small Group Learning (PBSGL) events. Any pharmacist or pharmacy technician interested in taking part in PBSGL should contact Val.Findlay@nes.scot.nhs.uk.

All the resources highlighted above can be accessed on the new NES Digital platform Turas Learn. [https://learn.nes.nhs.scot]

DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION

NES has been undergoing a process of digital transformation which should support all the technological advances required to support the education of the future healthcare workforce, including the development of a digital platform, Turas, which will become a central place to access learning. Turas will allow NES to understand the needs of specific user groups and tailor and direct learning opportunities to meet their needs; be that to support them in educational programmes like Pre- Registration Pharmacists Scheme (PRPS) and Vocational Training (VT), or to support learners in post-graduate career development and to meet and record their continuing professional development requirements.

In June 2017, NES Pharmacy successfully migrated existing NES Portal account information to Turas. This means that all pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and support staff who had an active portal account at the start of June will have access to the pharmacy section of Turas Learn.

All pharmacy educational resources have been transferred to Turas Learn and we will continue to transfer the associated MCQ assessments over the next few weeks.

NES aims to introduce course booking and course evaluation on Turas Learn in 2018 – at the moment all courses will continue to be advertised and booked via Portal. Again, your records will still be accessible on Portal and in future you will be able to see these on Turas Learn too.

We look forward to sharing some more NES Pharmacy developments over the next few months. The next two articles will focus on the Vocational Training (VT) Foundation Programme and pharmacists working in General Practice. •
