NEWS CHEMIST GOLF SOCIETY CELEBRATES BIG ANNIVERSARY

The Aberdeen Chemist Golf Society recently celebrated its 100th anniversary. The Society, which is a mix of current and retired pharmacists and industry associates, had its first outing at Murcar Links on 18 April 1917 and marked its centenary by returning to the same place on 18 April this year, with 17 players taking part.

‘Our membership,’ says current captain, Douglas Forsyth, ‘comprises current and previous pharmacists in our membership and we also have some pharmacy contacts who join us. It’s a very friendly club and we are always on the look-out for more members. Our Murcar event was kindly sponsored by AAH Pharmaceuticals, which has been a longtime supporter of the club, and without the support of them and

others like Quantum Pharmaceuticals and Phoenix Healthcare we would not be able to continue.

‘We have a long-running secretary in Alan Johnstone, who has been a member of the Society for over 40 years himself and still is very much involved with the organisation. Without him the club would have fallen away over recent years, but fortunately we have continued with around 20 members. In the past, we have organised matches against the Edinburgh and Glasgow chemist golfers and will try to repeat this when time permits. Alan deserves a huge debt of gratitude for the work he puts in on our behalf.’

Anyone who may be interested in joining the Society can email Douglas at d.forsyth@nhs.net.

NPA IN FOCUS Janice Oman

Scotland Representation Manager

Scotland is at the forefront of the European Pharmacy sector this month with a prominent address at the PGEU Symposium – and there is plenty more going on.

Firstly, as mentioned, Rose Marie Parr, Chief Pharmaceutical Officer for Scotland, will speak at the event hosted this year by the NPA in London on 13 June, in front of delegates from across the EU.

Her address will be based around the theme ‘leading the change’, from a Scottish perspective.

The Aberdeen Chemist Golf Society celebrates at Murcar Links last month.

A Scottish member forum will take place on 6 June and again on 5 September – be sure to sign up and stay in the loop.

New developments in Scotland include the NPA Pharmacy Performance Marker (PPM) for Scotland. The NPA business analysis tool presents three graphs of trend and analysis of a member’s pharmacy NHS performance in one KPI compared to other pharmacies in a simple PDF format.

The PPM was developed by the NPA working closely with a Scottish expert Microsoft excel consultant using publically available data. The PPM is an initial benchmarking resource which introduces the

value of data to members. I would encourage members to access this free NPA exclusive service that provides valuable business insight.

Members now have hand-held device access to NHS Swan network, which has the potential to benefit patients and pharmacy staff and should make raising awareness, gathering patient consent and registering patients for pharmacy services more efficient. The NPA has resources to support members make the most of their devices in practice.

On Sunday 16 July the NPA will be holding a vaccination training day in Glasgow.

The sessions cover multiple vaccination techniques (intramuscular, subcutaneous, intranasal, intradermal), anaphylaxis management and basic life support, and are supported by a series of online training modules.

There are still some spaces still available. For more details, or to sign up, visit npa.co.uk/news- and-events/events/next-available- vaccination-training-session- glasgow.

Please do not hesitate to contact Janice on j.oman@npa.co.uk if you have any issues you would like to raise.
