INNOVATION

MSP Jenny Gilruth cuts the ribbon at the relaunch of Cadham Pharmacy joined by owner, Bernadette Brown

THE RECENT RELAUNCH OF CADHAM PHARMACY AS A HEALTH CENTRE HAS GIVEN COMMUNITY PHARMACY A NEW DIMENSION...

A ‘VIEW’ TO THE

FUTURE OF PHARMACY

10 - SCOTTISH PHARMACIST T

he ‘traditional’ community pharmacy is usually a blend of a dispensary and retail

offering but one Scottish pharmacy has recently relaunched itself with an appearance that can only be described as ‘minimalist’ – to say the least.

Located in the small town of Glenrothes in Fife, Cadham Pharmacy is the first community pharmacy in Scotland to rebrand itself as a health centre and provides a great example of how pharmacists can deliver enhanced patient care. It is, quite simply, the face of community pharmacy for the 21st century.

To be honest, you don’t actually have to enter the pharmacy to realise how high-tech Bernadette Brown’s pharmacy is! That’s because the pharmacy window itself provides a ‘window’ to both the future of pharmacy healthcare in general and to the interiors of Bernadette’s two robots in particular!

While many Scottish pharmacies have invested in medicines dispensing robots, Bernadette has opted for two robots to enable her to maximise the time her pharmacists can spend instead in offering minor illness consultations and chronic medication service reviews.
