NEWS TEVA

LAUNCHES NEW TEVAONE MEMBERSHIP

Teva has announced an exciting evolution of its TevaOne membership scheme; changes which became effective from the beginning of May.

TevaOne is designed for UK Pharmacists and Dispensing Doctors’ Surgeries who buy generic medicines from Teva, and the changes illustrate the company’s continued commitment to ensuring its customers are well supported in today’s changing market.

The principal changes include a new lower net price and higher monthly rebate; the introduction of one simple monthly rebate; the removal of the yellow bonus products category which further simplifies the offer; and the introduction of the best Teva Net Price on over 50 per cent of the TevaOne range.

‘We are pleased to be able to present a new and exciting TevaOne that is a direct result of customer feedback,’ said Bruno Barcelos, Senior Director Generics. ‘We have launched a TevaOne that is simpler and clearer than ever before, with a price and rebate structure that is more transparent for customers. We know customers count on us to offer consistent, high quality medicines, and the evolution of TevaOne brings a more competitive offer than ever to UK pharmacy.’

The new TevaOne will be available from AAH, Alliance, Mawdsley’s and Sangers/AAH.

28 - SCOTTISH PHARMACIST

said they would like to use less, with smaller numbers saying they would like treatment to do so – statistics, which David Liddell, Chief Executive Officer of Scottish Drugs Forum, finds positive.

WORRYING SUBSTANCE MISUSE Also among the survey’s findings:

STATISTICS FOR SCOTLAND New statistics released by the Global Drugs Survey have revealed that Scotland has higher rates of consumption of illegal drugs than the global average.

Now in its fourth year, the study – which involved 120,000 people in over 50 global nations, including 708 people in Scotland – also revealed that people in Scotland are more likely to seek emergency department treatment for cocaine, MDMA (Ecstasy) and alcohol than in the rest of the UK.

• the top three drugs people reported using in Scotland within

the last twelve months were cannabis, MDMA and cocaine

• Scotland has significantly higher levels of people reporting hazardous

drinking scores than the global averages for both men and women.

On a more positive note, the study also revealed that 30 per cent off cannabis users and 36 per cent of cocaine users

‘The Global Drug Survey gives a useful insight into the range and levels of drugs used in Scotland by people who often do not engage with drug treatment services,’ he said in response to the survey results. ‘This report highlights the gap in service provision for people who would like to cut down their use of cocaine or cannabis in Scotland and reinforces other research about Scotland’s relationship with problematic alcohol use.

‘The majority of drug services have developed in Scotland to respond to opiate use and whilst of course this continues to be our main problem, it does suggest that people seeking help with their use of other drugs find it difficult to access the appropriate help and support. This is evidenced by higher use of emergency services for alcohol, cocaine and MDMA and suggests a continued need to offer harm reduction advice and information to this population.’

PHARMACIST SAVES MAN’S LIFE IN STREET

Well pharmacy technician, Dawn Parry, has been recognised for helping to save the life of a man who suffered a stroke outside the store on Glasgow’s Croftfoot Road.

Dawn, 35, who hails from the city, was leaving the branch at 3pm when she noticed a man staggering along the

road, looking unwell.

Using her medical knowledge and experience to assess the man’s condition, Dawn called for help from colleagues at the branch, while taking care of the man as they awaited the arrival of an ambulance.

As a result of her actions, Dawn has been recognised by her employer, Well, as one of nine team members from across the country who have shown exemplary service, to receive its Gold Stars award.

‘I’m sure that if any of my colleagues found themselves in that situation, they would have taken the same course of action and intervened to help,’ Dawn said. ‘Knowing that my actions potentially saved the man’s life is comforting and also encouraging, as I aim to help others in my role as an accuracy checking technician each day.’

As a winner, Dawn was recently invited to Well’s head offices in Manchester, where she attended an exclusive dinner with Chief Executive Officer, John Nuttall, at the Hilton.

The night was a celebration of all the Gold Stars winners from across the country and marked the one year anniversary of the scheme.
