IT’S A DOG’S LIFE... PET FRIENDLY EVENTS

FOR YOUR FURBALL AND YOU

What friend doesn’t need an afternoon or an evening out…furry or otherwise? Especially

SAN DIEGO Cardiff Dog Days of Summer 2017 Looking for a fun, pet-centric street festival to

bring Fido and your other furry friends? Hop in your poochmobile and head up to Cardiff By the SeaSunday, August 13, for a day solely focused on the companions who inhabit our homes…and our hearts. Cardiff 101 Main Street has partnered with the City of Encinitas in order to offer SoCal residents its 12th annual event, filled with over 200 dog-related vendors and rescue groups, offering pet adoptions, live music, dog contests, kids activities, along with a beer and wine garden, food trucks and much more! Does your pooch possess what it takes to be a winner? (Who doesn’t think that, right?) Find out by entering one of six contest categories: Cutest Puppy, Best Looking Big Dog, Best Looking Small Dog, Best Trick, Best Dressed and a Dog/Owner Look-A- Like. Take home a ribbon for first, second, or third place and a goodie bag of cool prizes. Registration is the day of the event from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. for $5 cash or $6 credit per entry, with contest starting promptly at 1 p.m. ! Make the time to explore “Rescue Row” as well, for a chance to expand your furry family, presented by Rancho Coastal Humane Society and Pet Health Expo presented by the City of Encinitas. For tickets and more, go to cardiffdogdaysofsummer.com.

The 31th Annual Fur Ball In what has become one of the most highly

anticipated, “must-attend” pet events of the season, San Diego Humane Society’s Annual Fur Ball gala is now in its 31st year. An event that entertains more than 600 passionate animal lovers, pet parents and their impossibly well-appointed animals, in what promises to be a night of fun and festivities under the stars. The added bonus? You get to indulge your animal instincts on every level: Indulge your fashion sense and dress your pooch to kill (matching outfits, of course), dine on delectable tidbits (for you and your companion, furry or otherwise), enjoy a cocktail or two (sans your furry friend) and bid on a wine vault and other things during the live and silent auctions. Just generally have a ball, while learning about and helping to support the programs and services of San Diego Humane Society. The 31th Annual Fur Ball takes place on the SDHS and SPCA campus at 5500 Gaines Street,Saturday, September 9, from 6 to 11 p.m. and is black tie optional. For tickets and more information, go to sdhumane.org.

when your “man’s best friend” pet, who has been patiently waiting—all day long—for you to come home and be loved up. The moral of this story? Be a good owner and solidify your relationships, by planning for you and your pet’s fun.

It should come as no surprise that there’s a

myriad of pet-inclusive events to indulge your every imaginable indulgence, a plethora of

pet-friendly bashes throughout the year for you and yours: Street festivals to surfing competitions, scavenger hunts, animal marathons 5k and other- wise, as well as glitzy black tie galas. Get it together pet partners (we oppose the owner moniker, after all who owns whom?), anything resembling an

excuse should leave you to hide in the corner with your proverbial tail between your legs. Be a good boy or girl and get out there and share some fun

with your furry companion and remember. As they say, life (unlike a well-trained pet) doesn’t come to you...You must seek out the experience of it. Please though, always remember to leash your

four-legged friends and pick up after them, as you head out and seek life’s many pleasures!

Below are a few examples of what’s possible in the coming months:

Dogfest Walk & Roll: Canine

Companions for Independence Seriously, this is one event that leaves my heart in a happy place. As they say on their website, “Celebrate the community of people and dogs that make it possible for Canine Companions to show that the most advanced technology capable of transforming the lives of people with disabilities has a cold nose and a warm heart.” This internationally-recognized program, provides highly- trained assistance dogs to those who are disabled, with a goal to enhance their lives. Loving companions who open doors, both literally and figuratively, for those in need. Come out onSaturday, October 21 and support the 176 active graduates and 133 puppy raisers residing in Southern California and help raise much-needed funds in order to continue their remarkable programs. Join superstar skateboarding champ Mick McGill, recently inducted into the Skateboarding Hall of Fame and walk your way into someone’s life by helping raise funds for this amazing cause. Anyone who registers and raises $125 or more by September 21st will receive a commemorative DogFest t-shirt, raise at least $250 and receive a special DogFest gift! For tickets and more information, go to cci.org.

Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon “Everybody is surfin’ , Surfin U.S.A…” And that includes Fido! Here’s another chance to support one of the most unique, private, non-profit organization in San Diego County. FACE Foundation’s

5th Annual 5k Doggie Dash Talk about a worthy cause... The Foundation for

Animal Care and Education (FACE) is a small non-profit, dedicated to providing financial grants to families and their pets in need of critical veterinary care. Their mission is “Saving Pets and Helping Families” and to date they have assisted and saved the lives of over 1,450 pets. Help maintain that wonderful tradition, during their 5th Annual 5k Doggie Dash being held onSunday, October 8, at San Deguito Park in Del Mar, to raise much-needed funds for those pets who desperately need care and the families who might not have the resources to provide it. Check in at 8 a.m. for a 9 a.m. start and walk or run for this worthy cause. After the race enjoy a lively vendor village, dog agility courses, music by a local DJ and amazing opportunity drawing prizes, just a few of the attractions that make the Doggie Dash fun for the whole family. Last year, FACE raised over $10,000 to help San Diego’s ill or injured pets and thanks to the generosity of our supporters, they hope to raise even more for 2017.For more information about their anniversary event, or to register for Doggie Dash, click the “upcoming events” tab at face4pets.org.
