The Launch of Hero by LPT
As many people know, the Hereford-based charity Little Princess Trust provides free real hair wigs to children and young adults across the whole of the UK and Ireland that have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or as a result of another medical condition.
Something that is not so well known however, is that the charity has given awards to medical research projects totalling over £1,200,000. The charity has provided funds to a diverse number of projects, each one in some way focusing on pediatric cancers. The Little Princess Trust is funding research into the causes and cures for childhood cancers and it also supports research into less toxic treatments that don’t result in hair loss.
Wendy Tarplee-Morris, Trustee, Co- founder and Case Manager said, “I am incredibly proud of what has been achieved since the charity was launched. When we initially started we spoke of how wonderful it would be if one day there wouldn’t be a need for an organisation of this kind. I could never have imagined that 10 years later we would be able to fund research which might one day help to achieve just that.”
The charity hasn’t stopped there! Last month the Little Princess Trust launched Hero by LPT, which whilst continuing to provide free real hair wigs, is aimed specifically at boys and young men, to encourage more of them to accept the help that the charity offers.
To date, only 5% of all of the wigs given away are to boys and young men and it is hoped that by developing this new brand, more will come forward and will feel more comfortable about seeking assistance.
Hero by LPT has been inundated with support from national and international sports stars, all willing to help get the message out there. Manchester City and England footballers John Stones and Raheem Sterling are behind the initiative as are many other teammates.
Closer to home, Guy Thompson who is originally from Hereford and who currently plays for Wasps RFU is championing the organisation and said, “The more I can do for this charity the better! Hero by LPT is doing great things to help young people with hair loss.” Another Herefordshire sporting hero Will Butler, who plays rugby for England U20 and for Worcester Warriors said, “I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to be an Ambassador for such an inspiring charity. Hero by LPT really makes such a difference to boys.”
Even pop idol Harry Styles, having supported the charity twice in the past, has agreed to have an image of his hair outline used for publicity purposes. Monica Glass Charity Manager said, “The support we have received so far is incredible. We are hoping that as a result we will be able to engage better with boys and young men and will break down any barriers that might be there in relation to receiving a free wig. Time will tell but hopefully the number of free wigs given away will rise to even greater heights and therefore the charity will be making a positive difference to even more people’s lives.”
