IT IS never too late to make a fresh start by taking up new activities or making new friends. The many clubs and organisations in the Malling Action Partnership area cater for a wide range of interests and offer a warm welcome to newcomers, so why not give them a try? Details of regular meetings are listed on this page.

Saturday, July 22 Wildlife Activity Day and Art Workshop from 10am to 3pm at Leybourne Lakes Country Park. Join in the fun with Rangers leading art workshops, bushcraft skills, pond dipping, orienteering, face painting, mini-beast hunting, flower pressing, and natural arts and crafts. The workshop includes a celebration of the ‘Past Plants Future Flora’ project with the Medway Valley Countryside Partnership. Meet by the flag pole near the main car park, no booking required. This is a free event.


Sunday, July 23 West Malling Farmers’ Market from 9.30am to 1.30pm in the High Street. There will be more seasonal soft fruit available along with other great local produce including game, drinks, crafts and lots more

Malling U3A monthly meetings are held at Ryarsh Village Hall at 2pm. This month’s guest speaker, Ian Bevan, is a City of London Tour Guide and lecturer in history. His talk “The Life and Achievements of Sir Christopher Wren” traces Wren’s life from

Minibeast Safari from 10am to noon at Leybourne Lakes Country Park. Short introductive talk on minibeasts and their habitats, followed by a minibeast safari. Thursday, August 3 Butterfly Survey at Leybourne Lakes Country Park. Learn about some of the butterflies that live in the park and take part in a sweep net survey. Meet by the flag pole near the main car park, no booking required. This is a free event.


Saturday, August 12 Offham Farmers’ Market from 10am to 1pm at Spadework, Teston Road. More than 25 stalls selling a variety of fresh and seasonal food, home and garden wares and crafts.


Tuesday, August 15 Crafty Chin-Waggers meet from 7.30pm until 11pm on the third Tuesday of each month at Mereworth Village Hall. Everyone is welcome to come along, whether you are a new crafter, experienced crafter, someone who would love to learn a craft or just want to meet new people for a chat. Friday, August 26 Bat Walk and Talk from 8.15pm to 10.15pm at Leybourne Lakes Country Park. Join the park expert during International Bat Week to discover what lives in the country park at night, with the chance to see Noctule bats and Pipistrelle bats. Just take a torch. Sunday, August 27 Larkfield Community Picnic on the Recreation Ground. Go along from 2pm to 5pm for a fun afternoon hosted by the Larkfield Community Group. Beer tent, bake-off competition, prettiest pooch contest and much more. Take your own picnic and all the family.

Saturday, September 2 Addington and Trottiscliffe Flower, Produce and Craft Show at Addington Village Hall. This is an amateur show with a wide range of classes open to all. Prize money is awarded in all classes as well as many special trophies.

Sunday, September 10 West Malling and Offham NSPCC supporters group invite you to an Offham Garden Safari. Noon to 5pm. Enjoy local gardens and have tea and cakes on the Green. Go along and have fun and support children and young people in the UK.


Saturday, September 23 Grand Stamp Fair at East Malling Village Hall, 9.30am to 3.30pm. Free admission and everyone welcome. There are 14 dealers tables in the large hall and there will be stamp displays on the stage, refreshments and free car parking.
