Santa Rosa, CA. ~ June has all- too-soon said good-bye but hot July is coming on like fi reworks, in more ways than one, Ha! M-m- m-m July is dripping with juicy o¬rganic fruits of all kinds, buttery corn on the cob and watermelon, sweetest scents wafting through summer air.
I have missed the in-
credible summer month of July and it has returned at last, truly a favor- ite, sigh. . .
Fat bouquets of lasting Alstro-
emeria fl owers, Peruvian Lily, or also called lily of the Incas once again fi ll thick glass vas- es, tall French fl ower pots. Ta- bletops full of almost kaleido- scope colors, an absolute pletho- ra of blossoms. I do hope your gardens are brimming with fl owers full of sweet nectar and pollen for the endangered bee populations. We’re all hoping and signing peti- tions that growers are going to stop using bee-killing neonicotinoid on our fruits and vegetables. Not good for bees, not good for humans! Check out Apitherapy, also
known as Bee Venom Therapy and Charles Mraz (1905-1999), well
known inventive beekeeper and Bodog F. Beck who actually coined the term, bee therapy. Fascinating! Visit Beekind locally in Sebastopol on Gravenstien Highway (707- 824-2905) and San Francisco’s Ferry Building, Suite 21b.(415- 307-8682).
It’s
a honey tasting extravaganza and stocked with all essentials for bee keeping and much more. Google or call them if you like.
Odd petite

begin. Because asparagus roots need three years to really establish themselves, waiting and topdress- ing the bed with cured compost is essential for proper root develop- ment. Time slips away and you’ll be melting butter, making Hollan- daise Sause, and slicing sour lem- ons to squeeze before you know it! Gardens are ripening fast, full of tasty ingredients for delicious sum- mer lunches, gorgeous elegant din-
ners with visiting friends, lavender cookies and your own fresh baked organic rosemary bread. All are just a taste of what’s possible this
Container gardening is bigger than ever this year.
As long as
there are apartment dwellers who want to garden, it’s here to stay. Berries are wonderful in huge pots, and great for the trellised verti- cal garden

well. All thrive in acidic, com- post rich, free draining, peat- free organic soil which you can

Bring home blueberries to plant like Sharp Blue, Misty and Sunshine Blue which is only three feet tall and all are perfectly divine. They are not only sweet and deli-

There was a salmon fi sherman who was out in the ocean
fi shing when his boat sank. He was lucky enough to make to a deserted island where he had to survive on what he could fi nd. When the Coast- guard eventually found him, the leader noticed there was a fi re pit with California Condor feathers all around. He went over to the fi sherman and said, “You know, it’s illegal to kill a California Condor, I’m afraid I’m going to have to arrest you.” The fi sherman protested for some time saying that he killed it because he was going to starve but eventually he calmed down. “Out of curiosity” the coastguard asked, “What did it taste like?”
The fi sherman replied, ” Well, it was kind of a mix between a snowy owl and a bald eagle.”
