Greetings Paul Doyle of Upbeat Times! This photo is from Moulay-Idriss, Mo- rocco. The site pictured is Volubilis. It is the farthest city of the Roman Empire from Rome. It is notable be- cause Idriss 1 forced out the remaining Romans as they were leaving the city to in- stall Arabic culture. Moulay- Idriss was a Muslim only city up to about 10 years ago. The tomb of Idriss 1 is here. The city is so holy that Mo- roccan Muslims can satisfy the pillar of the Muslim faith

The city gained a number of major public buildings in the 2nd century, including a basilica, temple and trium- phal arch. Its prosperity, which was derived principally from ol- ive growing, prompted the construction of many fi ne town-houses with large mosaic fl oors.

John’s not a great golfer – in fact, he stinks. But he’s always working on his game, trying to improve. One afternoon, after a typically bad round of golf, John is interrupted by a police offi cer as he’s throwing his clubs in the car. “Did you tee off on the 17th hole about 20 minutes ago?” “Why, yes I did offi cer.” John replied.

“Did you by any chance hook your ball over the trees to the left, out of bounds?” asked the offi cer.

“Yep, I believe I did.” John answered. “How’d you know?”

“Well,” said the offi cer in a very serious tone, “Your golf ball fl ew out onto the highway and crashed through a car’s windshield. The driver lost control, causing a 5 car pile-up and a small explosion. Three people went to the hospital with injuries, but will be ok. I’d like to know what you’re going to do about it?”

John sat there, seemingly saddened by the devastation caused by his errant tee shot. After much though, the he responded…

“I think I’ll aim more to the right, close up my stance, tighten my grip and roll my right thumb over a bit.”
