Yosemite: Every Step ... continued from page 10

to admit. It was a bit intimidat- ing, looking up at the two cables which appeared to disappear into the sky...virtually straight up. It was overwhelming. I bought gloves just for this part. At the base of the Dome there is a pile of cloves people have leſt just in case you have none. Ten it hit me like a large gran- ite mountain…I’m the Upbeat Guy! I can do it! Stay positive! Stay confident! I decided that I didn’t want to be the guy at the dinner table that night that would be saying, ‘I wish I had!” I almost decided I didn’t want to do it because I was tired. I looked up, grabbed the ca-

bles, and one by one I took my steps to each of the 2 x 4 boards set every 15 feet. It was won- derful! People encouraged me and other people all the way up, checking on each other, making sure everyone was ok. People were going up and people were going down simultaneously! All the way up the entire hike in

fact, everyone was encouraging everyone! Now I know where the planet hides all the nice thoughtful considerate people! At 2:37 p.m. (9-1/2 hrs)I made

it to the top. You know the rest of the story! I was elated I had made it! I took pictures & rest- ed for 15 minutes, then it was time to return to the rest of the hikers. As I descended I start- ed hearing cheers and wooo- hooos!! Not sure who was woo- hooing 400 feet up, I waved, hanging on to the cables, and it was my friends waving at the sub dome base waiting for me. Tey yelled “Yay, Paul Doyle! You did it! Great job! Woo- hoo!!’ Tey too were exhausted and when I got down to them, I woo-hooo‘ed them and told them great

job!! We all had

achieved it together! I went to sleep that night, legs tired but happy I did it. I did it!

May this issue find you well!
