Collaboration to protect nature A historic meeting has been held at ONE°15 Marina in Singapore, involving representatives from the Nature Society (Singapore) (NSS), Singapore marinas and the Marina Industries Association (MIA). The meeting was a sign of the growing awareness of the need for collaboration to protect the natural environment.


Colin Bransgrove, CEO of the MIA, said the marina industry is in a position to play an increasingly important role in nature protection and education. Stephen Beng, Chair of the Marine Conservation Group, NSS, added that he, together with NSS Executive Committee Member Dr Hsu Chai Chi and NSS Vice President Leong Kwok Peng were very pleased to meet with the marina industry, to learn of each other’s plans and strategies and to examine ideas for collaboration to achieve agreed environmental goals. Specifi c collaborative initiatives agreed to at the meeting included enhancing information for marina users and visitors relating to local fi sh species and other marine life and more effective industry linkages across government and community environmental organisations.


A new online mooring and accommodation website has been announced by Indonesia’s Lombok Marina and Resort Anchorage, so that sailors can book in advance and also pre-order fuel, water and accommodation – even laundry can be pressed and delivered.

The website can be accessed at: www.lombokmarinadelray.com Safe, year-round moorings are serviced by Captain Raymond La Fontaine of Australia and there will soon be a brand new yacht club at Lombok Marina, together with 60 marina pontoons capable of berthing boats from 13-40 metres.


New partnership in Asia-Pacifi c


It has been announced by John Deere Power Systems that a new partnership has been agreed with Power Equipment Pty Ltd of Melbourne, Australia, to be the offi cial distributor for its marine engines and spare parts in the Asia-Pacifi c region. Power Equipment has branches in New South Wales, Queensland, Western Australia and New Zealand, and will also provide a service in Papua New Guinea, Solomon Island, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Cook Islands and French Polynesia.


“We’re pleased to expand our distributor footprint in the South Pacifi c with the addition of Power Equipment, which will improve our geographical coverage in the region,” said Jean Michel Grimault, Account Manager for Asia-Pacifi c at John Deere Power Systems. “John Deere is committed to its customers around the globe, and we believe this new partnership with Power Equipment will strengthen that commitment.
