Riddle (Sr/Natural Bottom/Burnett Ranches). Texas A&M University, College Sta-
Ruth Hartman, of Shoenail Ranch,
Pampa, found one of her foals fatally shot in the neck on May 1. The 3-week-old Einstein colt was shot in broad daylight using a high- powered rifle and at close range, hitting Hart- man hard since in March she lost 6 horses in the Panhandle wildfires. Though nothing can replace the foal, Silver Spurs Equine owners Mike and Michelle Miola offered Hartman the opportunity to rebreed her mare to Ein- steins Revolution for free. Since the dam had already been rebred for this year, Harman plans to use her free rebreed in 2018.
NM Buckskin HA’s May 6-7 show,
held at Bosque Farms Arena, was a beautiful sunny experience with great horses and tal- ented people. High-point champions were Absolute Smokin Asset (Sr-Horse/Kathy O’Neal/Phil Baca and Am/Phil Baca), Greyson (AB-Open/Kristine Bowker), Pixie (AB-Youth/Yvonne Saavedra) and Koko Mo Konnection (AB-Ranch-Perf/Dolly Wal- lace/Sharon Tolbert).
Ranch Horse Association of America
hosted its National Finals May 11-13, at Tay- lor County Coliseum in Abilene. When the dust settled, division champions included Reagan Wheatley (Wrangler/Typical Shadow), Kameron Buchanan (Cowboy/ Heza Hickory Colonel), Trail Townsend (Ranch Hand/TRR Lucky Playgun), Chris Littlefield (Jr/Bold and Beautiful), and Terry
tion, awarded its first Masters of Equine In- dustry Management degrees on May 12. Recipients were Cari Klostermann, Paige Linne, Sarah Palacios, and Laura Jean Parunak.
Braggin’ rights! Colonels Smoking Gun (Gunner) be-
came NRHA’s newest Nine Million Dollar Sire after the NRBC April 16-23, Unoffi- cially Gunner’s offspring earned in excess of $131,000 at the show, pushing the late sire past the nine-million-mark by $63,000. Tim and Colleen McQuay, Tioga, owned the tal- ented stallion, which was humanely eutha- nized in 2013 due to laminitis. His excellence lives on in many performers, with his top money-earners so far being Tinker With Guns, Gunners Tinseltown, Americasnext- gunmodel, Gunners Special Nite, and Gun- natrashya.
CD Lights recently joined the
NRCHA’s Million Dollar Sire ranks, as his offsprings’ earnings officially passed that milestone in the reined cow horse arena. Owned by his breeder, Danny Motes and Winston Hansma, both of Weatherford, the stallion earned $34,000 in five seasons of NCHA competition, and retired from show- ing in 2006. His first foal crop arrived in 2005. They made their earliest impression in the NCHA show pen but quickly asserted themselves in reined cow horse competition. Continued on page 34
