// No5 Barristers’ Chambers

whatever you can afford. They, and more importantly the children and families they serve, need your support.

No5 are the largest chambers in the UK with offices in Birmingham, London, Bristol and Leicester with a growing client base at home and increasingly overseas. What does the future hold? The legal market has changed radically over the last two decades and will continue to evolve as new players and entities come in to the market. Social media and information technology will become increasingly important and we are alive to that, whilst not forgetting our historical journey. The legal profession at large is still a very conservative one, particularly the Bar. What we have shown is you can be respectful of that and proud of it but still be modern, innovative, ambitious and approachable to those who want and need your services. At the end of the day, we are a service industry and the client is the most important part of what we do.

More and more clients come to us directly rather than via solicitors in certain fields of law such as Family and Employment, which is a sea change. Where it is not a case for a Barrister alone, we refer the case on to solicitors who we know are highly competent, with the same client focused ethos that we have. This is better than letting Joe Public flip a coin based on limited knowledge of the legal market.

I cycled for the Spinal Injuries Association from London to Amsterdam in 2015, having not been on a bicycle since my paper round days when I had a three-gear chopper. The learning curve was a steep one, but completing it and raising £7.5k for SIA, who are a fabulous charity, was worth the early morning training sessions through the winter. Plus, there can be fewer better cities in the world to arrive in after a cycle ride than Amsterdam. We celebrated as enthusiastically as we had ridden!

‘Strictly 9-5 at the Movies’, is the highlight of your fundraising efforts and in addition to raising much needed money for great causes, it’s also the chance for some of your team to show off another skill – dancing! You must be proud of the team and this event? Our Strictly 9-5 event is amazing and now in its third year with Brendan Cole replacing Anton du Beke who kindly assisted us at the previous two events, as our compere for the evening. The dancers are all novices who undertake their training with such enthusiasm and effort it makes you proud to be part of it all. I have managed to dodge the calls to have a go myself, however bike riding is one thing, but strutting around in lycra at my age and height is something else, unless it was Disney themed and we could find Snow White to partner me. If you haven’t bought a ticket already, you should do so. It is a fabulous evening and great value for money but most importantly we are supporting two incredible charities. Whizz Kids who provide wheelchairs for children and the Child Brain Injury Trust who we have worked with for a few years. Please Google these charities and look at the amazing work they do. If you cannot make the evening, please spare

We provide a specialist service that many people will need at some point during their lives, sometimes in unfortunate and stressful circumstances. We have some of the country’s leading advocates and our recruitment policy has always been to attract the very best people. We view the Barristers at No5 as an extension of the legal teams that instruct them for their expertise in advisory work and advocacy.

The pursuit of excellence is a never ending one, in my view. Achieving it consistently is a challenge, but rather like our efforts to support charities, it is a challenge we feel we are well equipped to rise to. That is a view that is shared by my Head of Chambers Mark Anderson QC and everyone at No5 and it is one of the reasons why we are regarded as one of the best Barristers’ Chambers in the country.

Throughout its 100 year history, No5 has developed a reputation for breaking new ground and continues to be regarded as a progressive and forward-thinking set.

With offices in Birmingham, London, Bristol and Leicester they are well placed to provide expertise at all levels throughout the UK and overseas.
