California Wins Cancer Label Case Against Monsanto’s Roundup A


Fresno County Superior Court Judge Kristi Kapetan has ruled that the state of California will require Monsanto to place a cancer warning label on the com-


pany’s Roundup weed killer. The ruling is the fi rst of its kind in the U.S. and comes after a branch of the World Health Organization labeled the product’s primary ingredient, glyphosate, as a “probable human carcinogen.” Glyphosate, an odorless and tasteless toxin, has been manufactured by Mon-


santo for more than 40 years and sold in more than 160 countries. Monsanto will have one year to affi x the warning label to all relevant products.


Inactive Lifestyle Accelerates Aging G


etting off the couch and just moving may help slow the aging process in women that do not lead


active lifestyles. Researchers from the University of California at San Diego measured the telomere lengths of white blood cells in 1,481 women between the ages of 64 and 95. Telomere lengths are a measure of aging within genes. After adjusting for other health and lifestyle factors, the researchers found that the women with less physical activity had shorter telomere lengths than those with more active lifestyles.
