Itchy Ivy Tips to Avoid and Treat Poison Ivy Rash

Avoiding even slight con- tact with poisonous vines that secrete toxic oil goes far in preempting nasty blistering, skin pain and itching. If contact occurs, natural remedies can help prevent and diminish symptoms. Recognition helps. In the North and West, it’s usually a shrub; in the East, Midwest and South, a vine. Watch out for a cluster of three leaves; the color changes seasonally. For outdoor walks or hikes, maximize skin protection

by wearing long-sleeved shirts, hats, rubber gloves, socks and closed-toe shoes. Also thoroughly rinse skin that may have come into contact with poison ivy in lukewarm soapy water using a washcloth or hand towel for friction as soon as possible to remove the damaging oil (video at Tinyurl.com/ Wash-Off-Poison-Ivy).

n Stay watchful; a rash sometimes doesn’t appear for 12 to 72 hours after contact (aad.org).

n If a rash develops, soak in cool water baths containing an oatmeal-based product like Aveeno or oatmeal soap.

n Lavender, peppermint, tea tree, Roman chamomile, myrrh, eucalyptus and cypress essential oils all offer anti-inflamma- tory and other soothing properties (recipes at NewHealthAd- visor.com/Essential-Oils-for-Poison-Ivy.html)

n Natural treatments found at DrAxe.com include applying apple cider vinegar or brewed and chilled black tea; their tannins and other compounds lower inflammatory reactions.

n To reduce itching, GlobalHealingCenter.com suggests bak- ing soda baths and pastes. Ditch the Itch Cream has natural ingredients such as colloidal oatmeal, oat extract, tea tree and neem oils that can provide temporary relief, according to Eartheasy.com. Applying cool paper towels may be helpful; also try witch hazel. Over-the-counter cortisone cream or even calamine lotion is a last resort.

n Avoid scratching as an infection may develop through opening a blister. If breathing or swallowing worsens, eyes swell or a rash develops in or near the mouth, head to an emergency room or urgent care center.

Spirit Jewels A New Way to Help Heal

Sara Yo jewelry. A A phone chat with a cousin who took a trip from China

totally changed Dr. Hannah Hershoff’s life. She learned that mystical stones from a remote area of Southeast China near her hometown have incredible spiritual healing properties. After extensive research, Hannah discovered that the key element of the stones is a mineral, JDZ Kaolin, formed millions of years ago. During a long process using local water and fire in a special kiln, the stones not only permanently formed their gorgeous colors and shine but also gained their five natural ele- ments. This information excited Han-

nah enormously, leading to her decision to test the spiritual healing effects of the stones. She created her bracelets with these stones and gifted or sold to people with various levels of spirituality. A few weeks after wearing these eye-catching bracelets, three out of four indi-

viduals reported they gained confidence, improved their self-image, sensed more connections to loved ones and experienced a noticeable reduction in anxiety. A year later, Hannah and her husband started a company and named their JDZ kaolin comprised pieces, Sara Yo Stones. Dr. Hannah Hershoff says, “I am so glad I have made this career change decision, as each day I learn more about how Sara Yo helps people feel better. I

am so fortunate to do something I am extremely passionate about!”

Currently, the Sara Yo team provides complimentary email healing services based on Chinese Tao philosophy. Their weekly healing messages guide their customers step by step to meditate with Sara Yo stones and help transform their lives to new levels.
