Intern/Scholarships Available; Applications Due The Investment Casting

Institute is currently accepting applications for a its under- graduate intern/scholarship program for college students in internships with member companies.

The Board of Directors approved funding for multiple scholarships this year. To qualify for the scholarship, the student must be employed as an intern at a North American Institute member company (either caster or supplier). Institute Executive Di- rector Michael Perry indicated the intention is to encourage students to find careers in the

investment casting industry. The program addresses a

strategic goal of the Institute to encourage more graduates to work in the investment casting industry. Perry noted it benefits students, member companies and the industry at large. “This program gives stu- dents the opportunity to re- ceive funds to help with their education, but it targets those with a stronger interest in in- vestment casting,” Perry said. “Students must show an interest by being in an intern program in the industry before they receive the award.”

The Institute-funded

program offers to both North American casting and supplier member companies the incen- tive to recruit students to work for them. By offering students a positive work experience, they will encourage them to stay in the industry after graduation.

The program begins

with internships. Scholarships are expected to be awarded at the Institute’s technical confer- ence and expo in October. The company-sponsored internship must be a meaningful work ex- perience at a competitive wage within the student’s major.

It

must have stated objectives and outcome for the students, and must be 10-14 consecutive weeks duration.

In addition to participat-

ing in the internship, qualified students must be juniors or seniors majoring in engineering and technology, business and personnel, or environment and safety. They must maintain a grade point average of 2.75 or above on a 4.0 scale. Each ap- plicant is required to write a 500- word career objective statement. To apply for a scholar-

ship, call 201-573-9770 or e-mail ici@investmentcasting. org.
