Experience + Innovation = Mountain Equipment & Supply

Experience plus innova- tion adds up to a powerful formula whether designing an investment casting operation, planning an expansion proj- ect, or solving a problem.

is also a combination, which describes

Mountain Equip-

ment and Supply, an invest- ment casting consultancy, and its founder Jerry Donohue. Mountain Equipment and

Supply can design a new facil- ity, expand existing facilities, update old equipment with new equipment, rebuild or re- condition existing equipment and replace a single piece of equipment.

The company

also offers marketing and new product development support for investment casting sup- pliers looking to sell into this market. “I know and understand the process of investment

castings and designing or ex- panding a facility for produc- ing them,” Donohue said. “I have experience in both op- erations and in designing an investment casting facility.

I

was vice president and gen- eral manager of an investment casting company with respon- sibility for operations and sales. Following that I spent the next phase of my career in the supply and equipment side of the investment casting business.”

Donohue’s experience with automation in an invest- ment casting facility

dates

back nearly 30 years. “I

installed robots for

shell dipping in 1984. These were some of the first robots to dip all the ceramic coats from first dip to seal dip without human

the need for automation, we installed and operated auto- matic wax injection machines and purchased one of the very first wax pattern assembly machines in the 1980s,” he continued.

“My experience

is in the development of au- tomation for robotic wax as- sembly systems; robot shell dipping systems; manipulator and robot handling of preheat shells and pouring; automatic shell removal and cleaning of the castings; and cutoff and gate grinding of the parts.” The next stage of Dono-

hue’s career is in the material supply and equipment side of the business. He worked in such areas as melting equip- ment

and hands. Recognizing melting repair,

chemical materials for shell building,

zircon sands and flours for shell building, and

investment casting manufac- turing equipment and com- puter control systems. “I operated a financially successful IC business be- cause I understood how to make profit in this type of business,” he added. “I under- stand the process and the sys- tems designed to manufacture the product; I also keep up with the location of the prod- uct and determine the condi- tion of the product.” Donohue served the in- dustry as an Investment Cast- ing Institute director for 25 years with three years as pres- ident of the Institute. During that time he served on many committees. Currently he is a member of the education committee, and chairman of the government affairs com- mittee.
