August 1989 Marks a New Era for INCAST as Institute Newsletter

LOOKING BACK

August 1989 marked the beginning of a new era as INCAST, the Investment Casting Institute newsletter, became an industry magazine. A year and a half after its fi rst is- sue, the newsletter had established itself among the readers. While the name re- mained the same, the subtitle changed: “INcast–News from the Investment cast- ing Institute” was changed to read “IN- CAST–International News Magazine of the Investment Casting Industry.” The new magazine version

of IN-

CAST had twice as many pages as the newsletter and it sported a totally new look. A new glossy cover and a new logo gave the publication a new identity Another big change was the intro-

duction of advertising. This gave suppli- ers a new avenue for reaching investment casters and provided a means by which INCAST could become self sustaining. The 30-page issue contained fi ve pages of advertising, and by the end of the year, the number of advertisers had grown to 13.

Therefore we extend special thanks to our new advertisers and en- courage extra consideration for their services by industry members,” the article said. While some of INCAST fi rst advertisers

are no longer in existence, a faithful core con- tinues to market their products in INCAST. A group of current Institute members who were among the fi rst to advertise in 1989 are rec- ognized on the opposite page. Some of the headlines in the fi rst maga-

zine version of INCAST included: • Laser Patternmaking Gains Momentum

• Industry Reports Rash of Sellouts, Buyouts

• CAD Castings in a Big Way • Digital Replication: A New Way of Modeling Aircraft Engine Parts
