Penrhyncoch 2 AS CHINA celebrated their

New Year, the Year of the Rooster, the Roosters of Penrhyncoch also had reason to celebrate as they beat Buckley Town 2-1 on Saturday (Jan 28).

On a rainy afternoon and a heavy

pitch, both sides started brightly. Buckley were keeping possession well and created a number of half chances, before hitting the Penrhyncoch bar with a good shot. With half an hour gone,

Penrhyncoch took the lead through Jonathan Evans with a sublime shot from just outside the box that flew past Buckley keeper Adam McGee. Mark Gornall also forced the

Buckley keeper into a good save as they looked to increase their lead. Buckley came out early for the

second half, no doubt determined to get back into the game and on 56 minutes, they deservedly equalised with a goal from Paul Hart after he ran onto a through ball. Penrhyncoch appealed for offside

with the linesman flagging, but the referee waved away the players and gave the goal to make it 1-1.

On 58 minutes, Paul Hart for

Buckley shot narrowly wide from a free kick. Buckley then hit the post with a shot from Brad Williams. On 61 minutes, Buckley again went close with a shot that flew just over the bar. Phil Molyneux worked hard going forward. Penrhyncoch played some good

football and pressed Buckley back as the rain eased. On 77 minutes, Antonio Corbisiero

put in a good free kick from the left and Jon Foligno scored with a good headed goal at the far post to make it 2-1 to the visitors. On 84 minutes, Paul Hart had a strong shot well-saved by the

Mid Wales League - Division 1 Bow Street

Welshpool 1 A SIZEABLE crowd witnessed

an incident-packed game which eventually finished in frustration for the home side on Saturday (Jan 28).

Despite dominating large amounts

of the game, Bow Street were unable to complete a victory which would have consolidated their status of fourth in the league. This was due, in no small part,

to the man of the match, Welshpool goalkeeper Ed Harding, who celebrated his 18th birthday in style with an excellent display. Bow Street took the lead after 20

minutes with an excellent finish from Tomos Williams. Then, all present expected more goals to follow but inadequate finishing and Harding’s heroics meant they were restricted to one goal. Then, unexpectedly, in the last

minutes of the half, Welshpool, on a rare foray into the Bow Street half, were awarded a penalty which William Pritchard duly converted. 15 minutes in to the second half,

Bow Street were reduced to 10 men following a straight red card for goalkeeper Ben Williams for a ‘last man’ challenge. Tomos Wyn Roberts took over in goal. Bow Street dominated the rest of

the game. They threw everything at Welshpool, hitting the bar but, more often than not, the goalkeeper of Welshpool denied them. Harding pulled off four mercurial

saves in the last 15 minutes to deny the hosts. Saves from Tomos Williams and Mathew Pemberthy were particularly noteworthy. Welshpool had defender Ed Baker sent off near the end following a two footed challenge. Manager Barry Williams said:

“Strange game today; we did not play well enough, but should have won the game. The boys are both frustrated and disappointed with the outcome.” Welshpool joint manager Neil

Price stated: “We have to be more than happy with this point. This is always a difficult place to visit, and Bow Street are an excellent team.” Team: B Willis, O Roberts Young,

New Quay 1 CILGERRAN got back to

winning ways on Saturday (Jan 28) as they thumped New Quay 6-1. The Rovers had lost their two

previous games but felt they should have had something out of them after new some good performances. Louis Harding got the first after a

lot of pressure on the quay defence and fired low into the bottom left corner. Aaron Williams got the second

after the Quay defence cleared from a corner but the ball fell kindly to him on the edge of the box. Quay got one back just before half time from a corner by Charlie Dem.

down in the box, Cilgerran were awarded a penalty and Louis Harding steeped up to score and get his hat trick. Dan Bellis got his just rewards
