Village News news round-up

Hopes

have been raised that the car park at

Alvechurch Station may be drained, resurfaced and marked out, as was intended during its upgrade. Coun Marc Worrall told parish

council colleagues he and parish chairman Andy Humphries had been invited to a meeting in Birmingham with Network Rail executives to dis- cuss a proposal he had originally put to them last April. “I think the fact they have called us in means they are giving it some credence and are not dismissing it,” said Coun Worrall. “I will be very dis- appointed if we come away from this meeting without even an explanation of why they might dismiss it.”

Plans

to demolish Bear Hill House and build three

new houses on the site above the village green in Alvechurch should be refused because the scheme would be “at odds” with the neighbouring

Conservation Area, according to Brom sgrove’s Conservation Officer. The plans are also causing concern

for some villagers. Neighbours who share the narrow Church Walk access to the site are seeking assurances that they will be indemnified against any problems caused during demolition and building work, while another villager has pointed out that Church Walk is really only suitable for pedes- trians visiting the church or grave- yard. “It is not wide enough for the HGVs or skip wagons which would have to be used,” he told planners. A decision date for the plans has yet to be decided.

More than

60 letters of support for

a permanent Tree Preservation Order on Green Belt land close to the centre of Blackwell were submitted by resi- dents. Bromsgrove planners agreed at their January meeting to confirm the order, first made last summer after

residents reported hearing the sound of work being carried out at the site between Linthurst Newtown and the M42.

Parish

councillors in Alvechurch paid

tribute to the contribution made to village life by their clerk for more than 10 years, Yvonne Goode, who died in December. They are to donate £200 to The Garden Suite at the Alexandra Hospital in her memory.

Hopwood

and Barnt Green district

councillor Charlie Hotham is hop- ing a meeting including him and Alvechurch parish chairman Andy Humphries along with Worcestershire Regulatory Services over Mayfield Farm, Hopwood, will go ahead this month. Coun Hotham told The Village he had initially been offered a public meeting by Bromsgrove Council Chief executive Kevin Dicks, but now residents were not being invited.
