IT’S NOT JUST CRICKET! E
ven some Barnt Green residents may not be aware that their vil- lage contains a hidden gem – a
lively place, especially in the summer, with good food, good drinking and great entertainment on Friday nights. Where is this gem? Look no further than the village cricket club! Barnt Green Cricket Club is a hive of social activity and everyone is welcome. In addition to playing and teaching cricket, which the club is pretty good at, it also hosts a number of social events throughout the year including the famous (or infamous) annual cricket club ball, which this year is on September 23. Future events include a sporting lunch on March 16, live music from “Taylormade” on March 17, and the big reunion dinner on March 18. Over the summer there is sometimes a band or a disco. All events are posted on the website and tickets can be

A busy start to juniors’ season J
unior rugby at Kings Norton Rugby Club – based at Ash Lane, Hopwood – re-started
for the new year on January 9, with most age groups in training. The under 14s had a very close
and exciting match against Kenil- worth and it was a great opportunity for some of the younger age groups to watch this game being played on the main club pitch. The 22-22 score- line demonstrates the closeness and

meredith@equistone.uk BGCC provides a great social life for the village, bringing everyone, young and old, together. As for the cricket; the season starts
on April 21, so if you are interested in joining, either as an adult or child, you are all welcome! All kids’ coach- ing is done by ECB level 2 and 3 coaching staff from Complete Cricket
and mini cricket starts at five years old. The club is very proud to have a number of girls playing. So why not visit the club on those
balmy summer evenings and enjoy a drink, some banter and a great burger or hot dog, and meet other village residents. There is also some great cricket to watch or play. You can find more information at

junior teams (tag rugby for ages seven and eight, and contact for ages nine to 15) played fixtures at home against local clubs Old Haleso- nians and Old Silhillians (Knowle) on a busy and very muddy Sunday. The girls’ tag rugby team (ages nine to 16) took part in the West
Midlands Tag League Festival at Old Laurentians (Rugby). Training and fixtures alternate
on a weekly basis throughout the rest of the season until May. All age groups would welcome new players – please email
