In response to recent OEM claims on the fuel efficiency of clean diesel, a reader

shared with STN data from his fleet that compared the initial purchase cost, life- time oil changes and use of block heater in diesel school buses with costs for pro- pane school buses. Look for more information on this topic in our April edition.

“I will never understand why some groups put skewed numbers out in their advertising when they have one of the best propane buses on the road. We have several propane buses that perform very well.” —Wayne Winters, Transportation Department Regional Director Crittenden County Schools, Kentucky

Another STN reader and follower on Twitter commented via the social media channel on a recent blog by Robert T. Pudlewski (stnonline.com/go/aq) that discussed the challenges fleet maintenance managers encounter while trying to control costs.

“Good start to this article. I would add also listening to the bus operators when there are issues with their vehicles and not giving them the brush-off.” —Michael Benedict M. Benedict Safety Consulting Provo, Utah

For the Record

A January article on how the student transporters are working to improve conditions in Puerto Rico after the recent hurricane season (“Schools, Student Transporters Mend Lives Disrupted by Hurricanes,“ page 22) incorrectly stated that contractor ALC partners with Lyft to provide some special needs transportation service. The company uses Lyft for senior citizen clients. STN regrets this oversight.
