LOCATION: If you’re sending your client to Berlin, they’re going to get annoyed if you don’t pop them in the heart of the action. That’s a big tick in the box for this hotel as it’s set on Friedrichstrasse, close to Berlin’s best-known sights and shopping areas. From here, it’s a short walk to the Brandenburg Gate and Unter den Linden, while the Reichstag and Checkpoint


Charlie are just a hop, skip and jump away. FIRST IMPRESSIONS: It was 35C on the June day I arrived at the hotel, so my first impression was ‘thank God the air-conditioning is amazing’. After a few minutes enjoying the cool air, the impressive lobby area was next to grab my attention. It’s about as modern and exciting as one could hope for with an enormous video wall dominating and bringing the room to life. The greeting


was formal but friendly. A GOOD BASE FOR: It may sound a little obvious, but this property is a good base for getting the most out of a trip to Berlin. City breaks tend to be shorter than other

holidays, so every second counts. By using this hotel, the exploration begins from the


moment your client steps out the door. THE FACTS: There are 268 rooms and suites. The Junior Suites are worthy of a shout out, as they’re well suited to families, with an extra bed or sofa bed. It’s a new hotel and the rooms look it: massive TVs, marble bathrooms, Nespresso machines and genuinely high-speed Wi- Fi. Open the window and you’ll hear the buzz of Berlin, close it again, and you won’t hear a thing. They’ve even thought of some modern and age-old issues to make life easier including allergy-friendly rooms (never heard of one of those before) and a free ironing service. The hotel takes great care over its cuisine, with local specialities and traditional delicacies to the fore. German and Mediterranean dishes change with the seasons. The breakfast buffet was an

absolute delight, with plenty of choice and cooking stations. There are two restaurants – a buffet and an à la carte. Also a very welcome addition is the sauna relaxation area. There’s nothing better than some steam and a dip after hours exploring on foot. The NH Collection is NH Hotel Group’s premium brand, aimed at clients who value


excellent service and a memorable stay. WOW: An unusual wow but a brilliant one. If your client is staying at the weekend, they can take advantage of a genius introduction – Lazy Sunday. As a lover of being lazy, especially on Sundays, being


able to check out till 5pm is a mega-treat. HOW MUCH: Rooms from €109 per night, excluding breakfast (based on a stay in December 2016).
