Last year we launched a competition in partnership with Wellbeing Escapes to find eight agents who wanted to embrace wellness. The result was four

fam trips with two agents on each of them, all visiting different hotels that each have a different take on wellbeing. Here our third set of agents –

Annette Whiting and Charlotte Ellis – review their trip to Columbia Beach Resort and Almyra Hotel in Cyprus.

ANNETTE WHITING, DEPARTURE LOUNGE TRAVEL

BEFORE: I was keen to find out more about the world of wellness travel, which I know has been growing exponentially over the past 10 years. Personally, I

like to keep fit and healthy, so I didn’t hope for any drastic changes on the trip, but I do get frustrated with how much time I spend sitting (probably with a bad posture) during office hours. Some days I even eat lunch at my desk and barely move all day. Work has its stressful moments too. Sometimes I get soreness in my neck and shoulders. I’m not so worried about my wobbly bits now I’m older (45), but I do care about feeling energetic and happy.

DURING: The Columbia Beach Resort was homely, but had an instant ‘wow’ factor, and the more time I spent at the Almyra, the more I liked it. I also did my first yoga class on Almyra’s rooftop (overlooking the ocean) and loved it. I’ve wanted to do an exercise

that works both body and mind for some time, but felt a bit intimidated by yoga in the past – I thought it was a bit strange to be honest – but I felt so much more relaxed afterwards. It’s definitely something I’m going to look into doing when I get home, and it also highlighted my inflexibility. I was surprised how much my muscles had to work.

AFTER: I wasn’t sure I’d feel that different to be honest, but I’ve actually been feeling so re-energised since I got back – really enthusiastic about telling family and friends about the experience and how wonderful it was. My skin is still glowing from the Osea Malibu Seaweed Facial at the Almyra’s spa and I’m still enjoying the benefits of the back massage with fewer aches and pains. I’m planning a regular yoga class, since the trip has changed my attitude towards exercise; it doesn’t have to be hardcore all the time and is about wellbeing as well as fitness. I’ll certainly be telling my clients about this trip and will make sure they know that they can tailor packages to suit their needs.
