We put the spotlight on the hottest news this winter: a new safari brand and the expansion of a high-end hotel chain

AFRICAN PRIDE’S UPMARKET SISTER BRAND TARGETS AGENTS

New safari specialist Knighton Reeve is giving Aspire agents the chance to win a Fortnum & Mason hamper. African Pride’s sister brand will offer the same destinations, but its products will be tailored to a more affluent clientele. Targeted agents have received the operator’s brochure, which

features destinations such as South Africa, Botswana and Kenya. Sales boss David Holland said there was a gap in the market

for an African specialist offering luxury holidays, and the itineraries, such as Knighton Reeve’s Our Ultimate Bucket List, were designed with high-end customers in mind. “A lot of luxury tour operators sell Africa, but they aren’t Africa experts,” he said. “We know everything about Africa – our staff have lived there and holidayed there. “We’ve handpicked product that works best for a more affluent clientele. We also have the connections on the ground to be able to source more products, if agents ask for something specific.” Holland said 95% of African Pride’s business came through agents, and the operator did not target direct bookings. He said he expected Knighton Reeve’s trade bookings to account for a similar proportion. To enter a prize draw to win the hamper, agents simply need to follow or like Knighton Reeve on Facebook or Twitter before

SHANGRI-LA TO EXPAND KERRY HOTELS BRAND INTO HONG KONG

Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts will open its fourth hotel under the Kerry Hotels brand in April. The 545-room hotel, in Hong Kong’s Tsim Sha Tsui East shopping district, will join properties in Shanghai and Beijing, which opened in 2011.

More than 60% of the rooms will offer unobstructed views of the Hong Kong skyline and Victoria Harbour. It will feature four restaurants and bars, including Cantonese eatery Merchants and Shelter Lobby Lounge.

General manager Nicholas Smith said: “We are introducing a new generation of hospitality with the launch of Kerry Hotel in Hong Kong. We are the first designer urban resort by André Fu, encompassing the essentials of a five-star hotel, with the added elements of relaxed luxury and room to develop an expanded lifestyle.

“Residents and visitors alike will enjoy our facilities and intuitive services, from expansive harbour-view open spaces,

family recreation to creative food and beverage concepts.” SHANGRI-LA.COM/KERRY
