MACEDONIA: TIMELESS MOMENTS
acedonia is an undiscovered destination just waiting to be discovered by tourists from
around the world. The country is small but rich in terms of nature and culture. Within a few kilometres, tourists can ski on mountains and swim in the lakes. The country has an amazing history that is evident in an abundance of monuments, museums, churches, monasteries and archaeological sites. Much of the country’s natural beauty
is untouched by human hand. And the cultural and natural heritage of the city of Ohrid is also protected by its Unesco status. Ohrid is a cradle of culture where the first educators were born. St Cyril and Methodius invented the Slavic alphabet, Glagolitic, that later gave rise to Cyrillic. Macedonia is a place where a range of cultures mix and unite, making it a crossroads of civilisation. The city museum, the medieval castle, the fortress and other archaeological findings, combined with the national park and beaches, make the town the ‘Jerusalem of the Balkans’. The city has 365 churches, which means guests could visit a different one every day of the year, while waves on the deep lake remind people of the sea. Visitors travelling through the
country will be surprised by the sudden
changes in landscape. A relatively short journey sees so much change that visitors could be forgiven for thinking they had covered hundreds of miles. Macedonia is a great choice for people who enjoy active tourism. Rural tourism is also popular: tourists can learn to cook local food, ride donkeys and horses, go cycling and hiking and even climb mountains. Then, of course, there’s an array of water and winter sports. In Macedonia, every comfort and
leisure you can think of awaits the visitor. There are moments in life that should be devoted to you – for those moments, think Macedonia!
