The Pathology Department within NHS GGC provides a full and comprehensive Histopathology and Cytopathology service and undertakes a wide variety of diagnostic techniques including handling over 101,000 LBC requests per annum (Hologic system). It provides a comprehensive analytical and Consultant led clinical Histopathology, Cytology and Post Mortem service to clinicians working within NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde and other Health Boards.
The main duties of this post will include undertaking primary screening and rapid review of Liquid Based Cytology (LBC ThinPrep) cervical smears. You will contribute to providing a professional clinical laboratory service, working effectively as a team member as part of the Department of Pathology. You will perform all core scientifi c and interpretive work, which corresponds to the training and qualifi cations of a Registered Biomedical Scientist and be responsible for own work and uses specialist training to operate complex equipment and solve problems.
Applicants must be HCPC registered as a Biomedical Scientist and possess a BSc (Hons) degree in Biomedical Sciences or an equivalent qualifi cation as well as an appropriate Certifi cate in Cervical Screening recognised by the NHS Cervical Screening Programme (NHSCSP). Experience of ThinPrep Imaging system is also desirable. The working pattern for this post is Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm, plus participation in evening working (to 7pm) basis. The Pathology department provides a comprehensive Histopathology and Cytopathology service to Greater Glasgow & Clyde and undertakes a wide range of diagnostic techniques, the post of Cytoscreener is an essential post for the successful running of the department
The main duties of this post will include undertaking primary screening and rapid review of Liquid Based Cytology (LBC) cervical smears. The post holder will also provide the support skills to aid the delivery of patient material in a suitable form for screening and/or diagnostic purposes as an aid to effective diagnosis and treatment.
Applicants interested in the Cytoscreener post must possess the City & Guilds Diploma in Cervical Cytology (Level 3) or an appropriate Certifi cate in Cervical Screening recognised by Programme (NHSCSP).

Biomedical Scientist - Multidisciplinary – Band 6 £26,565 - £35,577
37.5 hours per week Permanent
We are seeking to appoint an experienced Microbiology Biomedical Scientist to join the team within this busy multi-disciplinary Laboratory..
The Laboratory provides on-site Clinical Biochemistry, Blood Transfusion, Haematology and Microbiology services for Lorn & Islands Hospital and a widespread Primary Care population. The laboratory currently has full CPA Accreditation and is working towards ISO 15189.
Although working primarily within Microbiology you will be also be expected to work within each of the disciplines when
required.The successful candidate should be highly motivated with good communication skills and willing to work fl exibly with the other team members. Whilst a multi-disciplinary background would be advantageous this is not essential, as full training will be given.
You must be an HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist, with proven post registration experience and a desire to broaden your knowledge into other disciplines. If you do not already have the BBTS Specialist Certifi cate in Transfusion Science, you would be expected to register and attain this additional qualifi cation. Once deemed competent in the relevant disciplines, you will also be expected to participate in the multi-disciplinary on-call rota.

A vacancy has arisen for a post of Sector Quality / Training / Health & Safety Manager within the Biochemistry/Immunology/Neuroimmunology Departments in South Glasgow. Biochemistry is one of the largest and busiest departments in the UK. You will be directly responsible for the day to day management aspects of the laboratories Quality Management systems. The post also has a lead role in the management of training and Health & Safety within the Departments.
The laboratory building on the South Glasgow hospitals campus is uniquely equipped with a large combined Abbott Flexlab track. This track includes Biochemistry, Haematology and Immunology analysers. There are also a number of specialist services provided by the Departments.
The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and Royal Hospital for Children
opened in 2015. The new hospital has been directly funded by the Scottish Government at a cost of approximately 800million with approximately £80 million of this total being used to build the Laboratory Medicine & FM Building in which the laboratories are situated.
It is essential you have an MSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent and a quality management/training qualifi cation or demonstrable equivalent training. You must have current HCPC registration as a biomedical scientist.
