Longpre has traveled all over the world to capture some of sailing’s biggest races from America’s Cup to the Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. Bob often travels with Mary on her trips to Australia where she spends much of her time trying to get the best action shot from the media boat.

As far as shooting goes, Longpre
enjoys the excitement at the starting line and action shots such as spin- naker runs because that’s where the action is, she said. “Coming around the weather mark

weather since heavy clouds and chop- py seas result in crews pulling on bright foul weather gear making for great contrast against the grey water. Longpre got her sailing photogra-
phy start in 1978 when she shot yacht club races and provided racers with their photos after the event. She also worked on the Newport to Ensenada
Race Committee for 31 years where she shot the start of the race before driving down to Ensenada to meet Bob who competed in the annual race. Once there she was responsible for snapping photos and distributing them to the media. In 1987, she flew to Perth, Australia
to capture the America’s Cup, securing herself a spot on the media boat. To date Longpre has captured shots of the Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, shot nine America’s Cups, the Rolex Big Boat Series in San Francisco, Hamilton Island Race Week and Airlie Beach Race Week in Queensland, Australia, and 10 races held in Melbourne, Australia, which include Audi Race Week and Festival of Sails. Locally, Longpre will be shooting the Baldwin Cup hosted by Newport
Harbor Yacht Club April 8-10. She plans to attend the June 2017 America’s Cup in Bermuda and has also been asked to shoot the new Golden Gate Yacht Racing Challenge in San Francisco. The mother of two, and grandmoth-
er to five, still manages to sneak in some racing with her crew on Valentine. She plans her photography around her racing schedule, she said, which includes weekend regattas and night races in the summer. Although Longpre has come a long
way from those early days of racing and photography, she does not see herself reaching a stopping point any- time soon. “It’s something I can see myself doing for years to come,” she said of her racing and photography.
