ONE CITY ONE PRIDE: INTO THE STREETS Each year the City of West Hollywood celebrates Pride month through the artistic contributions of community members with

the One City One Pride LGBTQ Arts Festival. This year’s theme is Into The Streets which is taken from the rallying cry “Out of the Closet and Into the Streets,” so often used during the early days of the LGBT movement. The festival features 40 days of LGBTQ arts beginning on Harvey Milk Day, Sunday, May 22 featuring a free screening of Milk, followed by a panel discussion and small reception. Other May events include: the Lambda Literary Award Finalists readings on Tuesday the 24th. Next, Queer Califor- nia - On Music and Mapping featuring scholar/writer Karen Tongson and writer/performer Raquel Gutierrez on Wednesday the 25th and City Poet Steven Reigns leads a book discussion around Felice Picano’s Nights at Rizzoli on Tuesday the 31st. Multiple June events through out the month of June feature book launches, history tours of West Hollywood, Art Out and Ian MacKinnon’s Army of Lovers Project, Vox Femina, the Human Rights Speaker Series, a New Works Series presented by Celebration Theatre and the Rainbow Key Awards, to name just a few that all culminate around L.A. Pride and run through June 30. If last year’s lineup is any indication, 2016’s features should continue the rich tradition of featuring all of the things we have to be proud of. For an evolving list of upcoming arts events in WeHo, go to weho.org/arts and click the LGBTQ (One City One Pride) tab, or check them out at facebook.com/wehoarts.
