In the first week of November our community will host the largest demonstration of equality and diversity it has ever seen with the 29th
annual Pride celebration. Pride is a time where our community can come together
celebrate and raise awareness for human rights, social justice, equality for all individuals, and for the right to love whoever we want.
When as neighbors we walk hand in hand, we collectively breakdown walls of discrimination, bullying, and
shame. At Pride, we are proud of the activism and stewardship of our neighborhoods. We take pride in who we are individually and collectively and in doing so, we celebrate the amazing lives we are living.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community enhancement organization, Greater Palm Springs Pride serves as a catalyst
for celebrating the strength, equality, dignity and self-determination of the LGBT community locally and globally. We’ve been recognized as the Organization of the Year by the Desert Business Association. We’re local, we’re in the community and we work year round to produce the region’s Pride events which take place in and around the downtown corridor.
Pride showcases our city to the world unlike any other entity. We are the only large-scale Pride Festival in
Southern California offering free admission. With our move downtown last year, we are now the largest Pride Festival in Southern California. Sounds, crazy, right? The Palm Springs Pride Festival is now larger than the Long Beach, Los Angeles, San Diego and Orange County Pride Festivals. Our parade has as many, if not more contingents as any other southern California Pride parade.
In June, Jetsetter Magazine named us as one of the Best 11 Gay Pride Festival Trips on the planet ranking us alongside Amsterdam and NYC. Attendance at all the official Palm Springs Pride events in 2014 was in excess of 140,000.
This year our marketing and advertising investments promoting Greater Palm Springs Pride as a diverse gay
friendly cultural tourism destination will pass the half million dollar mark in key Southern California markets, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Portland, Toronto, Edmonton, Montreal, London and Munich. Our marketing efforts fuel the $19 million economic impact Pride has in the region. Our funding comes directly from individual donors, business and civic supporters and from those who participate in our programs.
Programs of the organization include the Pride Parade and Pride Festival, Pride Honors Awards, the unique
Arenas Block Party and OUT PSP: A kick off to Pride weekend. We also serve as the lead collaborator with Equality California to host the Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast. In 2016 we will also host Taste of Pride, a food and drink festival along with the Big Gay BBQ.
As neighbors we celebrate during Pride and we raise awareness of key issues in our community including
immigration reform, access to quality and safe education, insurance, health care, trans* rights (transgender and gender nonconforming people), rights for incarcerated LGBT individuals and religious discrimination against LGBT individuals.
As you make plans to participate in Pride events this year please keep in mind that your support helps sustain the operations of the organization that works year round fostering pride in and respect for the LGBT community locally and globally.
