Lifetime Achievement
Spirit of Stonewall Lifetime Achievement The Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to recognize an individual whose lifetime body of work has left a lasting major imprint on the LGBT community.
Melinda Tremaglio Melinda Tremaglio, Spirit of Stonewall Lifetime Achievement
Award recipient, was born and raised in Wallingford, Connecticut, where after graduating high school, she joined the Army and was discharged for being a “homosexual” in 1961. This event was the start of her journey as an activist for women and gays.
Before moving to Palm Springs in 1997, she was part of the West
Hollywood LGBT movement in the mid 1960s. In Palm Springs she operated a flyer distribution company to the real estate industry.
As a member of the Palm Springs Association of Realtors, she
chaired the special events committee helping to raise money for local charities. In the past, she co-chaired a committee to help produce MLK day in Palm Springs, created and produced the Halloween event on Arenas Road through 2014 and served as President of the Palm Springs National Organization for Women from 2009-2014.
Currently she is in the process of recreating her television
series from the gay 80s. She helped to produce and host Lifestyle Update, a show with news, entertainment and stories of gay and lesbian lives. The show recorded over 100 thirty-minute episodes and eight one-hour documentaries including The 1987 March on Washington, Gay Voices, Gay Legends Volumes 1 & 2 and interviews with the celebrities of the 80s who attended and supported AIDS fundraising events.
Melinda has received numerous awards including Woman of the Year of West Hollywood (1985), City
of Los Angeles Public Library Commission Outstanding Service Award (1989), Gay and Lesbian Press Association Outstanding Service (1991), Outstanding Service Award Desert Rainbow Foundation Hall of Fame (2003), Palm Springs Gay Veterans Award For Outstanding Service (2004), Palm Spring Human Rights Commission Award of Recognition (2006), Lifetime Achievement Award Veterans for Peace, Cathedral City (2010) and California Desert Association of Realtors, Advocate Award (2013).
