The Volunteer of the Year Award recognizes individuals for outstanding contributions to the betterment of our community through their volunteer efforts.
Brian Wanzek Brian Wanzek, perhaps better known as Bella da BallSM
, Palm Springs
area social ambassador and hostess with the mostest, receives the Spirit of Stonewall Volunteer of the Year Award. Bella has a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars, received SafeSchools Desert Cities Champion for Youth Award for LBGT Youth in the Desert and has been named PrideNation Best Entertainer People’s Choice Award for many years. In addition to being recognized with the Outstanding Community Service Leader award from the Desert Business Association, Bella has also received the Herb Lazenby Community Service Award from AAP (AIDS Assistance Program) at Evening Under the Stars.

Other involvement includes the Safe Schools Desert Cities, Gay Straight Alliance, Rainbow Youth Summit, Pride Prom, Greater Palm Springs Pride and its Cabaret stage, Broadway in Drag Pageant, Palm Springs International Film Festival and ShortFest, Modernism Week, Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center, Desert Winds Freedom Band concerts and events, Arenas Road Halloween celebrations, Palm Springs Women’s Club, Rancho Mirage Women’s Club, Fashion Week El Paseo, AAP Oscar’s Night, Desert AIDS Project, Kittyland, Harvey Milk Foundation, and many others.
Bella da BallSM , the 6-foot-6 (in heels), big hair, big glasses diva is
often seen with a microphone and a clipboard in hand as emcee of events throughout the Coachella Valley. Bella also presents weekly shows at a variety of venues that include Lipstick on Thursdays, a Cabaret Variety Revue on Tuesdays, and Bingo and Trivia Game Night on Mondays.
Brian and his partner, Kenneth Hamman, came to the desert fifteen years ago and love spoiling their dog, Holly.
