A$9.8 million grant from
the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation fully funded construction of the 35,500- square-foot library building, which opened in the fall of 2010. In 2014, library visits had a daily average of 711 visitors. Program attendance dur-
ing 2014 totaled 41,513 partic- ipants — down from 46,102 the year before, according to the library’s annual report. Programs included the Ar- kansas Heritage program series, craft workshops and the Crime Lab Detective exhibit from the Museum of Discovery. The library’s collection

contains 86,000 items plus a large selection of eBooks, audio books and videos avail- able for downloading from
baxlib.org. Patrons may borrow books, movies and music, or visit the library to read and use public comput- ers. The library also offers Wi-Fi and high-speed In- ternet. In 2014, computer users
totaled 27,721, or a weekly average of 533 users. Circu- lation last year totaled 349,679 items, or 8.4 items per person in Baxter County. Library cards are available at no charge to Baxter Coun- ty residents and Arkansas State University Mountain
Home students. Residents outside of Baxter County may obtain a library card for a $30 annual fee. The library also features
a local history and genealogy room, and access to micro- film and microfilm reader. Community organizations may book the Knox Commu- nity Meeting Rooms at no cost during regular library hours and for a fee after library hours. Businesses may also book the rooms for a fee. Volunteers are vital to the
library’s operation. During 2013, library volunteers con- tributed 11,637 hours, valued at $220,288.
