the Arkansas 14th Judicial District — which also encompasses Marion, Boone and Newton counties —and has a circuit court with four divisions and four circuit court judges. Circuit courts are respon-

sible for felony criminal cases, civil cases, probate, divorces, and juvenile and family cases. Baxter County District Court handles mis- demeanors and small claims cases. The courts are open to the

public, except for juvenile court, where cases generally

remain confidential. Court is conducted at

the Baxter County Court Complex, 301 E. Sixth St. in Mountain Home. Circuit judges are: » Division 1: Shawn

Womack » Division 2: Deanna

“Suzie” Evans » Division 3: John

Putman » Division 4: Gordon

Webb All circuit judges serve

in all counties within the judicial district.

Circuit court Felony criminal cases are

filed by Prosecutor David Ethredge. Judges Webb and Putman preside in felony cases and misdemeanor appeals from district court. Womack presides over

domestic relations and civil cases, as well as child sup- port enforcement cases. Juvenile court handles all

cases involving juveniles, ranging from delinquency and criminal violations to parental abuse and neglect. Evans presides in most of those cases but also handles civil, domestic and probate matters.

District court Van Gearhart is the dis-

trict judge. District court is a non-jury court with county- wide jurisdiction over traffic violations and cases involv- ing misdemeanor charges. The district court also

hears small claims cases up to $5,000 for contract dis- putes, and damage to or re- turn of personal property, and civil claims up to $25,000. Cases in district court

may be appealed to circuit court for jury trials.
