BRIARCLIFF— Briarcliff’s


beginnings date to the 1970s when the residential community called “Briarcliff by the Lake” was es- tablished. Later, the Briarcliff Water and Recreation Improve- ment District No. 1 was formed. Briarcliff, population 230 in


the 2013 census, was incorporated in August 1998. The city com- prises about 1,500 acres and is bounded by AR Highway 5 South on the west, Norfork Lake on the east, AR Highway 341 on the north and Salesville on the south. The city has its own well and


water system, and a roads and buildings maintenance depart- ment, which also oversees the improvement district. New resi- dents pay $85, including a $50 refundable deposit, to obtain a water system connection. Fire protection for the town is


provided by the Tracy Area Fire Department, which has a Class 5 Insurance Services Office rating. The fire department also has a substation within the city. Briarcliff has a 1 percent city


sales tax, with a total sales tax of 8.5 percent, combining city,

1 percent county and 6.5 percent state sales taxes. Briarcliff has a clubhouse/city


hall, community swimming pool and nine-hole miniature golf course open and available to property owners and guests. The clubhouse has large rooms available for activities and events at a nominal fee. The city parks and recreation


commission has established a park with a picnic area and na- ture trail around the city’s pond. The pond is located in the middle of the city, containing fish stocked by the city with assis- tance from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. Gene Hubka is Briarcliff


mayor. Denise Corbin is recorder/ treasurer and Mike Holland is the city marshal. City Hall hours are 9 a.m. to


3 p.m. Tuesday-Friday. The Bri- arcliff City Council meets at 3 p.m. the second Tuesday of the month. Meetings are open to the public. More information about Bri-
