Lynne Ferguson, singer, songwriter and director of The Native Youth Horseman- ship Program on the Port Madison Res- ervation in Washington has spent her en- tire life living Emerson’s prophetic words.

The oldest of her excellent parents’ three children, Lynn and her younger brothers were born and raised just north of Los Angeles. Although her dad owned his own business and the family had what they needed, all of his children were taught to work for the things they wanted.


For as long as she can remember, Lynn has had two passions; music and horses. When she was young, several of her friends and neighbors were learn- ing to ride. Even though her father could have bought her a horse, he encouraged her to earn the money herself. Eventu- ally, after two years of babysitting and house cleaning jobs, he matched the
