pods. Yum. Must rush. Life is totally awesome. Love you. Bye.” When your communications sound
like this, know you have one foot on the slippery slope of busy-ness. It’s a debilitating trap fuelled by urban
loneliness and an ache for external recognition: busy-ness, too many think of it as a badge of honour. We are getting lost trying to get found, and shaping ourselves from the outside hoping someone will see us for who we truly are. Although white shiny teeth still interest
me, I have decided to step away from this view of life. I realised recently that I am really,
really happy, just as I am, that my essence is happiness – yours too. A comforting thought. I also realised we all have a golden
purpose. It lies deep within the fibres of our being silently waiting for our attention. Noise distracts us from it. Silence is a simple antidote: liberal
doses, morning and night; come back to centre, lean into the still point. Lose yourself in the soft presence. Take time to listen for the quiet assuring voice, reminding, ‘All things flow from me’ – a gentle reminder that you are a valued part of the web of life.
There are no failures in nature. Autumn
isn’t worried whether Winter will turn up this year. The Earth doesn’t worry herself if the Sun will turn up for work tomorrow morning. Take time to be in nature, hear, see, smell, and listen to the wonders of a tree, the grass, the moss, stand in an icy cold stream. The rules of nature guide us from the inside. Be still. Be silent. Be humble and listen. Allow life to be offered to you from the
inside. Receive, let it resonate into your work. In the myth of The Rainmaker it is
explained that in the days of yore when a region went without rain and the well- being of the townsfolk was suffering, the elders would send for the rainmaker. Rainmakers were quiet, mystical folk.
Upon arrival the rainmaker would pitch their tent on the outskirts of town, go into solitude offering prayers, and salutations. After a period of time rain would come and harmony would be restored in the village. Within the solitude of their tent the rainmaker would spend their time quietly addressing whatever was out of balance within themselves. Seeking inner guidance, and putting things right within themselves, they quietly honoured the subtle and sacred within.
When it was restored within, it showed
on the face of nature. Quiet (r)evolutionaries bring the rain. The quiet (r)evolution involves smiling
more, the touching of plants, moments of quiet wonder, and experiencing reckless moments of gratitude for nothing in particular. When we sit in deep silence we access
a different level of intelligence, a sensed language that pulls at our heart strings; opens us to inspiration connecting us to what is important. It’s daggy, I know, but the only word
that really captures the quiet presence within, is ‘God’. That God would choose to live within
me as me is a tremendously humbling thought. What to do? Sit quietly. Watch the (r)evolution.
