Work is also underway on a series of wind turbine mechanical joint integrity products. “While ECITB’s current range of products largely meet the needs of wind turbines, we recognised that although the type of equipment used on wind turbines performs roughly the same function as flanged jointing equipment, it looks significantly different and operates in a different manner.” commented Phil.
“Also, due to the sheer size of wind turbines the process of applying the equipment is different. Here we have recognised training is required to familarise the engineering construction workforce with wind specific equipment and processes.”
Work on the wind turbine mechanical joint integrity programme is due to be completed by the end of the year and rolled out to industry in 2014.
